How many times have you been stopped by the police and what was it for?

Any tips to pass on?

I got stopped once only for driving round buckingham palace 4 times during a security alert! I was lost :embarrest: They were very nice and a biker cop escorted me in the direction I needed to go in as his shift was ending.

I used to get stopped all the time in my 'chav' cars - fiestas, escorts, novas, etc. advice - dont be cheeky to them - and if your being a tit and doing dangerous stuff, you deserve a ticket - so just accept it.

Never been stopped in any of the 750's even though one of them is Black - with limo tints - big wheels - and crystal lights all round.

I can only assume that they are more interested in the younger boys, or the chavvy cars.

If i was a tit with 65bhp, imagine what I could be like with 300 in a RWD. That said I keep my ASC on all the time as the car is just waaaaaay to powerful to drive down the lanes to my house without it. When its raining just touching the pedal can cause it to lose traction :(

And the one time i did have it turn off i lost it in a big way - just as the old bill were doing their rounds - he just wagged his finger at me and drove off.

yea..being stop by police in Brunei is very common because of speed traps and road blocks for illegal modifications.

never been stoped
thought i was going to on sunday as coming up to a roundabout a bit quick stoped before the cop car entered the roadabout but he stayed in front of me most of the way home shame as i was going to clear it out lol

If you know you're guilty and they have evidence then be very polite but don't actually admit to anything. You might well get off with a roadside b****ckin*. I escape with one of these having been stopped for driving at 122mph.

If you know you're innocent then don't hesitate to make this clear. Still, don't wind 'em up needlessly. The Police really have no interest in reporting you for something that you haven't done. They're buried with paperwork when they report someone who has committed an offence.

Used to get stopped so often in my Elan when I was a LOT younger that I started pulling over as soon as I saw a police car behind me. When asked why I had stopped I explained that I was so used to being pulled that it was easier and quicker to simply stop. Worked very well as it put them on the back foot :) My theory was that they wouldn't expect anyone with a guilty conscience to stop voluntarily....

Treat them as you would want to be treated.

However, I was told by a traffic cop that they have to decide whether they are going to book you or just give you a warning BEFORE they get out of their car. So, in theory, what you say shouldn't make any difference, but I wouldn't suggest testing it! He did say that sometimes it was very dificult to stay with the original decision to give a warning when confronted with a complete t*t. Some, especially these days, may well be swayed by your behaviour.

The two officers that pulled me for 122mph were curious to know what I'd done to my diesel 406 that they had a fair job catching up in a 3.2 V6 Omega.

All in all, apart from the initial fear that I might have my license revoked for some months the experience was quite pleasant really. There was no sarcasm or rudeness on either sides' part.

OG: "However, I was told by a traffic cop that they have to decide whether they are going to book you or just give you a warning BEFORE they get out of their car."

That probably is the case if they're on a particular operation to stop and report speeding drivers then they almost certainly will do so. I think in my situation they were not on a 'speeding' mission but clearly couldn't overlook three figure speeds regardless of what else they're up to. I view this as eminently sensible policing.

got stopped once for not slowing down enough from a 60 to a 30 into a village late at night hit it at 40 and the only other car that happened to be about was a cop car lol. Anyway they were alryt actually just sat me in back, asked a few questions about tax, mot etc and sent me on my way

Thankfully I've (not yet) been asked to sit in the back of a Police car.

Must not have been your lucky night then! ;)

I was stopped once. I was driving through town centre late one night in my old Corsa, came off a roundabout then put my foot down...then the police turned up behind me! I slowed down, but wasn't stopped straightaway. When I finally was pulled over I was only asked my name and where I was heading. Obviously, he'd already checked my details so there was no need to check everything.

The idea of deciding on appropriate action before confronting driver was to try to remove subjectivity from the legal process. This was, apparently, standard procedure in SE London and Kent back in my day. The copper shouldn't be swayed by the driver's reaction, personality or length of skirt! Luckily for women, they often were :) Probably not so much these days as there are a lot more female cops.... but then again..........:).

I came over a bridge nearby my house and down the other side was a sniping copper with a laser gun, bright silly hat, and no car.

Okay, doing 45 over a bridge sounds dangerous but, oh well. I was going to work, the irony being I got a 60 quid fine and 3 points, so everything I did at work was thusly utterly pointless.

No bother, learn from the mistake, don't get caught.

Guy was nice enough just, bit stupid, he was like "Oh we're looking for some burglars car in the area...."

Bull. Was looking for me in my little old Civic doing too fast for the crap remolded tyres, and lacking of ABS brakes.

The Golf would stop in an instant.

Bin stopped quite a few times for

Driving without due care and attention (1)
Dangerous driving (1)
No seatbelt, £30 fine (2)
Driving while suspended (2)
No insurance (2)
No tax (1)
No rear window ! (1)

When i got pulled for driving while suspended twice, it was within 2 weeks of each other, both times it was in my friends car and they both got impounded

Points;

I was doing 115mph on motorway, in and out of cars and shot passed a CID police Vectra, they followed me n got backup to pull me, dint get me in court till bout 8 month later, when they did i tried blaggin it to them, dint work tho, they suspended me n give me 7 points

When i got caught drivin while suspended twice they blasted me with 14 points on top of my 7.

TOATAL 21. When my ban is up (september 25th) i av to take my test again

OH YEAH, if you get stopped by traffic police, do not try blaggin ur identity, wen i giv em my name n adress they pulled out a portible fingerprint divice to see if i was lying.

BY THE WAY IM NOT TRYIN 2 ACT CLEVER, I REGRET MY DRIVING HISTORY....BUT BOYS WILL BE BOYS

Learnt my lesson now

Never been stopped and I hope it will stay like that fore at least some time. Have been stopped in a boat by the coast guard asking for a licence to drive that but since it is under 6 meters(19 feet) I don't need a licence. I would have got away if I had wanted to, the guy who ownes the boat acted like he didn't see him and hammered it and they couldn't catch up to him but since I was wearing a jacked marked to the Dalvík SAR team I decided to stop so I wouldn't get suspended from the team.

only been pulled once at work for no seat belt, the thing is i'd jus fuelled straight out onto motorway at rush hour so as u can imagine to a view full of brake lights and at least a half hour wait and hadn't really noticed the plod along side(tend not to use mirrors as much wen not moving!!), anyways he pulled me and as he was writing my ticket decided to give me a lecture on wot could happen to me at wait for it.......... yes 5mph, he then pulled a polaroid out and showed me the inside of a car that had been in said speed crash, there was blood abd bits of bone all over the place, wot a load of c@#p the car in picture might have been doing 5mph but whatever hit it was doing about 150mph, yes i was wrong for not wearing but why lie about his polaroid, seemed like he loved that photo more than his missus!!!

There's a simplified way of working out what damage would be done in a crash.

Take the impact speed and multiply by four.

So 5MPH becomes 20MPH.

Now tell me you would run at a wall at that speed!

Nope, I'm a good boy me!

Seriously, though when I started my father was still employed by the Constabulary. Some of them thus knew me, and had full permission to give me a clip round the tab as well as whatever else happened.

Wasn't worth the risk...

I've never been "stopped", but I failed to get started once!!

I used to be in the bad habit of using my front fogs when it wasn't foggy. The extra light near the kerbs is really nice down county lanes - and I live in the middle of nowhere.

Through sheer habit I turned them on in the Odeon car-park, leaving the cinema late at night, and before I had chance to get more than 3 feet a cop car waiting by the entrance/exit gates bunged me a £30 fine.

I was in the W8 at the time, which has a Magnaflow cat-back, so that probably helped draw his attention to me :(

Got pulled over 2 times in my Swift.
1. for speeding doing 40 in a 30 but knew i was goin to get pulled so pulled in before they got to me. I admitted I was in the wrong, said sorry and they sent me on my way.

2. It was starting to get dark (enough so you only need sides) so i decided to put my fogs on with them. Got pulled and was given a £30 fine but no points.

But I never got pulled in my 106 which surprised me because it looked like a boy racer..!

nothing recently (as by sheer luck i noticed the car following behind was unmarked police). too many to mention in the past for no particular reason - good old "Spot Check".
Although once about 2am was pulled in the centre of town for supposedly making an illegal u turn (amazingly no signs saying this wasnt allowed) but only one police man in the car who was peeved as they had to turn around to follow us, so i saw him do this and slotted in between two parked cars using the handbrake to stop so no lights - he shot straight past to the junction while myself and a mate were creasing ourselves in the car until he realised what he had done. he pulled up and was giving us a ticking off when my mate, who was drunk at the time, saw someone running down the road with a seat in his hand and decided that it would be more appropriate for the policeman to chase the seat thief. This didnt go down well but he just harassed us for another couple of minutes and went away as he really had nothing to say,
