Hi - my first post so please bear with me!

I have a Audi s4 with various modifications but having serious issues

It is burning 1litre oil every 200 miles!!!! It has had a one piece stainless exhaust put on which causes engine mngt light to come on as the emmissions are off the scale

It is running rich and have had compression test which is ok

Being told there is no back pressure and oil is being sucked through

Awesome car - just want to get sorted

PLEASE HELP!!

Does it still have a catalyst? Is the filter still a standard one or an induction kit? Has it been remapped? Does the exhaust look smoky it should with all that oil dissapearing? What grade oil are you using.

yes to cats

not sure to filter / induction kit

yes - remapped

smoke - not really hence why we did compression test

exhaust is less than 12 months old - i have had the car for 5 months

oil - as advised 5w 30

2 garages looked at now and still no luck!!! Such an awesome car - what to do?

Try running it for a bit without the air filter, this might lean up the mix a bit. If this works then an induction kit will help. But this still doesn't answer the oil consumption. Are there any oil leaks?

My boyfriend thinks that something like this is down to the valves leaking oil if the compression test is ok and oil is burning in the engine, the other place for the oil to go is by being burned off inside the turbo. He said something about letting it cool down before switching off the engine but this seemed daft to me as it would heat up surely?

I really doubt that "backpressure" could have anything to do with high oil consumption. If your car has been running rich for a while then it is quite likely that your catalyst is on it's last legs. You really need to get this sorted out as a priority.

Instead of removing the air filter try just removing the bottom of the air box, leaving it open. You'll need to tie the filter onto the top of the housing but it will hopefully as has been said already get the engine running leaner.

What was the compression test results? Did they give percentages for each cylinder?

Oil consumption in these is usually pretty low, with around 1-2 litres needed between service intervals.

It might be the engine is running too hot. Who did the remap? Does it smoke?

Just spoken to a guy in the trade and he says to check the connection between the PCV Valve and the intake manifold.

Next up check for vaccuum leaks and change your PCV Valve as this can cause excessive oil consumption.

Is the car showing any fault codes through the diagnostic port?

was it audi that gave you them codes ?

ross techs page, makers of vcds (formally vagcom), usually can tell you whats wrong but it doesnt see any of them

so tried normal googling

all 3 showed up as 02 sensor faults on ether bank 1 or bank 2

Can anyone recommend a garage in Poole / Bournemouth area that would know what thet are looking at here?
thanks:confused:

Try www.reganmotor.co.uk or Advanced Autos or APD www.apd-vag.co.uk - (I can't vouch for any of them as I've not used them but a web search shows they are VAG group Specialists.) APD seem to be into the performance tuning side so it might be something they have come across already.

Let us know how you get on what they discover.

I wish you luck with this. I'm not sure what else to add at this point, and the problem is indeed a mysterious one. Failing turbochargers can cause oil to be drawn into the intake air stream but this would result is serious exhaust smoke under trailing throttle conditions.

Stick with the correct oil, don't even consider a heavier grade - this will increase the crankcase pressure thereby in all likelyhood will force oil past the 'rings thus increasing consumption further.

Is it simply a serious oil leak?
