Do you think cars are more reliable or is it just the fact that there are fewer older cars on the road at the moment?

When did you last breakdown or require assistance?

Cars are a lot more reliable than, say, 20 or 30 years ago. For example, it was a common sight to see lots of cars steaming away on the side of the road in any queue during the summer months. Very rare sight now.

RAC do less repairs but more recoveries as modern cars are more difficult to repair on the roadside.

Forgot about them. Amazing that at the time they were accepted as normal maintenance procedures :)

That's when we had real mechanics who could actually repair/rebuild transmissions/motors and not like the "technicians" we have today who are just fit new /recoed part fitters.

I guess that's called progress where everything is more specialised similar to the building industry where most things are pre fabbed for fast installation so the guys/girls on site are not taught/have the skills to build a house from a start to finish like it was in my day.

The computers inside them keep them running as efficiently as possible and warn before a major problem happens.
