Any help or advice on engine tuning for my 308 sport

Hi guys,
I'm fairly new to the world of modified cars. I've spent a lot of time on this website looking through all the information and advice ppl have taken from this and this seems to be a fairly good and knowledgeable place to start.
I'm starting small and hoping to work up from there as I go. I have a 2008 1.6 Peugeot 308 sport (DIESEL). I've had it remapped, I've also decided against going for a cold air intake filter as this seems to be a waste of time on cars smaller than a 2 litre so opted for a K&N performance air filter instead. I'm looking to add an intercooler (if I can) but have read that the size and location of it can either benefit or hinder the results? Any advice would be very much appreciated. And if anyone has any other advice on mods they have had done to their 308 as well that may help with my quest then thank you in advance. :)

Greetings and welcome to our TorqueCars forum :)

We do have a few Peugeot specialists on here who will hopefully be along to help you with you're questions.

Good luck

Unless you're thinking about upgrading your turbo? I'd leave it as it is cause if you do upgrade your ic and have it mapped again your only likely to see a slight increase in torque/hp! If you have some spare cash you want to throw at your car? It's amazing how much suspension/handling mods make your car so much more fun to drive!

Personally I'd scrap the performance panel filter as well. The only advantage of these is that a dirty performance panel filter allegedly flows better than a dirty standard filter. I am also not convinced that the quality of filtration is as good as that of a pleated paper filter.

Who mapped your car btw?

I was thinking of upgrading the turbo at some point as well, only if this would work well together with a new intercooler. Money isn't really an issue but at the same time I don't want to waste money on things that aren't likely to improve the overall performance of the car.
The suspension and handling is also something I've been researching, I don't want to lower the car too much that it looks stupid but some stiffer performance dampers and springs and maybe front and rear lower braces?

So you think a pleated paper one will work as well or even slightly better than the performance panel filter?
I had my car remapped at Ridgeways Garage in Rotherham, have def noticed a huge difference in performance and fuel consumption and is a hell of a lot more responsive.

HDI is right -having used various things down the years I also believe that the only advantage of a performance filter like K&N or Pipercross is that it flows better when dirty. But for the price difference - say £10 for an oem paper and £40 for a K&N you could just replace the paper more often.

Make sure your airbox has a decent cold air feed, and change the element to a new one.

I've heard various things about intercoolers. What I've gathered is that it IS possible to get performance increase with a larger aftermarket IC - especially on a remapped car, as it will lower the intake air temperature which will have gone more than normal due to the remap. However DONT just go for the biggest - this isnt always the best. First you can get lag as the turbo has to fill it, also if it isnt designed properly the air can actually go too quickly through it and not get cooled.

Have a google as to what others have done.

Great, thanks for the advice on the air filter I'll bare that In mind for future replacements.
I've read the same information ref to size of intercooler so not sure how to gage what size to go for but I'll try searching a bit more online for that info. Unless you know of anywhere I could specifically find that info??
I'm planning on a few mods all at once which, after researching, 'should' all work well together hopefully. A larger turbo, correct sized intercooler, upgraded injectors and fuel pump and performance exhaust system.
Along with performance dampers, springs and front and lower braces for improved handling, but its the engine bits as above that go way over my head! haha.

The remap will make a huge difference to the driveability. That is without a shadow of doubt. I've done this in the past with a 2.2 HDi Peugeot and it was well and more worth the couple of hundred pounds I spent upon it. Midrange shove was phenomenal.

I'm just querying the fitment of an aftermarket panel filter.

I should have explained my greater concerns previously, and those are that these [performance panel] filters often do not filter as well as pleated paper ones. This - if I am right in what I say - will lead to excessive engine wear due to the ingress of particles which might otherwise have been trapped by a standard air filter. Thus reducing the longevity of your car.

A remapped engine should be good for 250,000 miles plus provided that maintenance is frequent (as opposed to regular, which is ambiguous) and you don't abuse it by, for example, driving hard before it's fully warmed up etc.

PS - Sorry for not explaining myself fully, and, more importantly, hello and welcome to Torque Cars.

Thanks for the Welcome. :)

And thanks for the advice, what your saying makes a lot more sense how you've explained it actually. I think I'll do right to swap to a pleated paper one then by the sounds of it then, better filtration.
