Alloys for a Punto - nightmare or what!

You've got to love those quirky Italians and their random wheel fitments.

For any Punto owners browsing this forum, you may well have shared our nightmare when shopping for a funky set of rims, only to find none fit.

Now, there are a couple of potential solutions - wobbly bolts ( ), or a H&R PCD adaptor ( ), which pushes the wheel 20mm further out of the arches.

Has anyone tried either of these set ups, if so which one works best :?: What are the pros and cons of each option :?:

Thanks guys :D

Anything poking out of the arches that far will fail an MOT! Wobbly bolts is just not an option. Taking off the hub from the CV and replacing with a more standard setup would be the perfect option but its a pain getting parts that mate correctly and will probably mean changing brake disks/calipers etc....

Do alfa romeo wheels fit?

Super glue them on? :?

Hello.

As Waynne said, for godsake don't use wobbly bolts! They're an ill fitting bodge that can (and have in the past) fail and snap. If memory serves me correctly the PCD for those is 98mm x 4. Most good quality alloy wheel makers do this fitment. Do you already have the wheels are are you looking to buy some?

No we haven't got any yet. We can only find 4 x 100, it doesn't look as though anyone does 4 x 98, except Compomotive, and they're only concentrating on the motorsport wheels at the moment. We don't like any of them

Try and track down some of these:-
20vt rims, momo GT2 rims, speedline, X-tunes, Alfatech carries original Alfa rims & FA italia K Speed (Tiawan!) So now you have too much choice!

Compomotives have excellent brake cooling and are light weight and you can colour code them like Freddie did with his Saxo rims  . If you are looking for 20inch chrome jobs with spinners I think you should give up now

Show off! Bet you looked it up!

 Damn! Busted. I used to work for a local garage type place that specialised in the sales of alloy wheel and tyre packages, sport suspension, performance exhausts, induction kits ect. That was one of the stupid bits of information I will remember forever. I could tell you the PCD for most things.

Where have you looked for your wheels? Try enquiring at you local Halfords Ripspeed counter (make sure you speak to a supervisor, they're the most helpful) and if you have no joy there, try places like Demon Tweeks and Xtreme.

Thanks for the heads up about Speedline wheels Waynne! Also, after a couple of hours trawling the web, for any other Punto owners sharing our headache, may I recommend Stamford Sport Wheels, http://www.stamfordwheels.com/ for an enormous selection, and also AEZ and their affiliated ranges, although I can't remember what they're web address was. I know now, and hey, so do you.

See, i'm giving something back to the community. Look, Mum, I'm not a selfish sociopath :!:  :D

I'll write a letter to your mum and confirm if it'll help!

if you cant find some wheels then try some from an Alfa Romeo, Lancia early Seat Ibiza and any Fiat.

You should be able to find something, I got some TSW Blades for my X1/9, and they look the dangles.

Ill send you a PM with a PCD wheel database. You can se what fits then.

Yes... i own a Fiat X1/9... 3 of them actually. One race car and 2 road cars.

he he he he....

I nearly got an X1-9 - reliability concerns put me off on paper it looked like a fun car to own and drive.

Yes reliabilty can be a bind but the ones i have are ok.
Getting a spark is the main problem, the dizzys have adjustable points setting and this moves. My red one has been given a hard life (raced at local hillclimbs and sprints) so has been well maintained.

not many engines i know can rev off the scale and not miss a beat.

Main down fall is rust proofing.. they melt like a chocolate bar in a sunny window.

you can still get NOS panels for them so rebuilding is no problem.

Tail happy in the wet, point and click in the dry. Excellent fun in the sun.

I'v always used 100pcd wheels on my fiats (using wobbly bolts) with no ill effects at all. and have been using them off and on for the last 20 years

How about finding some (if you can) wheels off a marea, or otherwise, as long as there fiat wheels?! recently fitted 15"x195s instead of 13"x145s to my mk1 punto+ got away with slightly heating up my wheel arch plastics +:blink1:modding and adding 9.5mm spacers!!

Corners like a go kart on rails........

i had the same problem on a 1993 fiat croma, (4x98) depending on the size you want to get 15" shall be no problem, 16" could be hard, 17"-up for get it, i got 15" AEZ Tacana rims, looks ok,

There's absolutely nothing wrong with 4 x 100 PCD and wobbly bolts. I know dozens upon dozens that have and are using wobblies under very hard use (inc. track use) with no problems. Never personally heard of them snapping.

Plenty of motorsport and OE 4 x 98 PCD alloys around. The better manufacturers such as OZ offer a better range of fitments too. You will only struggle if you're trying to buy cheap crap or a silly size.

fiats and peugots use that stupid 98 x 4 pcd
you can find them but theyre not very nice alloys + ridiculously overpriced
best bet is multifits....which still dont look nice

I've just picked up some more super rare 4x98 PCD alloys, need a refurb though as they've come off a rally Integrale (just like my Comp TH Rallye's did). Sh*t hot wheels though and rare as hens teeth second hand, leftover stock is silly expensive too. There's loads and loads of options for a Punto, you just need to look hard enough, knowing where to look helps too :toung:

I had this issue when finding some for mine I found some I liked and rang the place up and asked if they could make make them the pcs I was after job done

I bought a punto which had a set of 4x100's on it already, which I obviously did'nt know at the time. I found out when I had to take a wheel off. Hence I had to change 3 out of the 4 hubs because they were cross threaded, only 2 bolts per wheel would tighten.
