Hi everyone!

I've been considering having my ECU remapped to improve the performance but as this car is my baby I don't want to hand it over to anyone that might make a mess of it.

I'm basically looking for a couple of recommendations from people who have had the remap done on their own car (and had no problems). I'm in the Preston, Lancashire area and someone who is mobile would be great. I'm obviously looking for the best price too... Got a price of £225 so far but hoping to get it cheaper... :amuse:

Thanking you in anticipation!!

Hmmm. In one breath you want it done well but in the next you are looking for the cheapest :) Best and cheapest never go together. £225 is not expensive.

Decide whether you want it done properly with a map designed for your particular car and engine spec or cheaply with a generic map. You also need to decide whether you want a power or economy map.

If, as you state, you don't want your car messed up stick with the established, well known remapping companies and their agents.

Hi, thanks for the reply,

You're right in that I want it done in the best way but for the cheapest price... I am forever the optimist :p and though it would be nice to get it for less I suppose you do get what you pay for.

I was getting quotes for mobile services (£225) so I was under the impression that some of that amount was for the pleasure of the mobile service. I looked at mobile services because my local phone book has a distinct lack of tuning garages, and I am hopeful of a recommendation from someone who has had their car remapped at a specialist somewhere local to Preston (and who are happy with the results).

I would never go for a generic map, that's a surefire way to say good bye to your prized Audi lol.

you already have a generic map on it from VAG( Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft or VW group), so another generic map will be fine as long as you stay with big companies as OG said.. custom code and revo are 2 of the biggest regarding tuning VAGs and both have various stages
1 generic map--- CC around £340 and revo £499
2 - tweeked map to take into account mods such as intake, downpipe, another turbo
3 - fully custom

what engine code does the 1.8 have as there are a few ?

I have an A3 1.8 T - I understand it's the same engine as an Audi TT which puts out 225(or so)bhp against my 150bhp. IS there a TT remap available for the 8L A3 1.8T?

:)

what engine have you got just now ? - look at the sticker in the boot floor it should be 3 letters - there are quite a few variations or the 1.8t ranging from the 150 up to 240

the block is the only part that is the same through most of the range.

iirc you have an R reg which is one of the earlist 1.8t running the smallest turbo (think i might have put this in your thread) even with several mods that turbo is only good for 200bhp. but it has a big ported head.

to give you an idea the 225 TT has alot of differences -
airbox - well just the top of it
maf - 3" over the 2.5" you currently have
turbo intake pipe - made for the MAF housing and turbo
K04-023 turbo - compared to your K03 turbo
twin intercoolers - rather than single
different intake manifold - TB is on the opposite side due to the second cooler
4 bar FPR - compared to your 3bar
bigger fuel pump in tank
small port head - compared to your big port
Varible timing
9.3:1 pistons - yours are 9.5:1
forged rods - depending on your engine code you may also have them
forged crank - s/a
exhaust manifold - turbo sits differently and turbo itself is larger
downpipe - again bigger for the turbo
twin cats from the downpipe
ECU

thats just off the top of my head

just checked and it was someone elses thread i had posted on if you can come back with your engine code ill see what i can tell you. if its the same code as used by VW i might be able to dig up more than if its just an audi used engine

Dude, you are a legend. Will check tommorow and get back to you!

Thanks fella.

it will be pretty much the same list as those with K04s will have those differences however audi played about with some engines where they fitted the slightly bigger turbos (k03s) to the earlier engines - they were standard to all post 03 and fitted to some in 02
