One popular modification done to cars is replacing the wheels. We will look at the types of wheel available, the pros and cons of each and look at the implications of fitting different size wheels. We will be challenging the concept of wider wheels giving more grip and looking at the effect a larger rim size has on a cars performance.

Unless it is a seriously set up car changing the wheels will do very little apart from the looks (obviously)

However on a well set up car if you fit lighter wheels there can be a benefit (again not on a normal stock car) Weight certainly plays a part . To save OG from saying it remember the tyre weight makes a difference as well.

I guess that one can group in wheels and flywheels in together when it comes to inertia .
Wider/larger diameter wheel& tyre combination IF heavier than the stock will almost certainly harm acceleration as the heavier wheel/tyre weight will take fractionally longer to get up to speed. BUT IF lack of grip/wheel spin is reduced /eliminated with the wheel/tyre upgrade then acceleration will /should be improved.

Just thinking out loud FWIW
