Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, my reason for joining is of all the forums i've read on Pugs, this one seems to have the most knowledge or at the very least people who want to help!

I have a 407 Coupe which has developed a fault. mine is the 2.0 Hdi sport.
it is only an 08 plate and it has been into the garage for the fault put they cant find it as per the usual!

basically what happens is, every now and then when i am breaking (usually gently and either on the way down a sight hill or up one) the ABS light pops on, i get a warning saying ABS faulty and the ESS turns off. I have also noticed, when this happens my break lights are stuck on.

anyway, as soon as i stop the car, take the key out and fire up again, the fault clears and the car can be fine for weeks and weeks before it comes back again. its more annoying then anything else.

Has anyone ever had or heard of this before? Any clues or suggestions will be great

Thanks all,

Pho

hey and welcome to the site.
where have you been taking it to ? independent, dealer or specialist
i would suggest going to the later as generally they know more about the car and engines than the dealers themselves.

only thing i can think of might be dirt around the abs sensors or rings.
brake switch behind the pedal maybe broken

i have seen a couple of pugs with the brake lights on all the time and wondered what it was

My guess is that it is just a faulty/dirty ABS sensor but on some cars different tread depth can cause some Traction control/ABS issues. Do the tyres have identical tread depth, patterns?

Does it happen more when cold or when hot? Does the car pull to one side under braking? Take the wheel off and check the ABS ring for dirt, chips or broken teeth.

Thanks for the quick answers guys!!
Tbh I was thinking the same ie dirt on the sensor. My dad also said that and suggested either a properpower wash or taking the tyres off and washing everything.

I take the car to the dealer I bought from altho I have zero confidence in them after all the problems I had with my 207 gti.

The brake light thing was only found out by pure fluke really. It tends to happen after longer trips when the engine is warm. Having said that I still love the car.
Just annoying really.

Thanks again. I'll give it a go and see what happens and feed it back cheers

Thanks Wayne. Yes all the tyres are the same and all are about 6 months old now.

Cheers

dont use a pressure washer on the sensors you may damage them.

take the wheel off and you should be able to see the ring.

and start looking for a pug specialist in your area
