Hi people, i have a 1995 306 d turbo which after a few tweaks goes really well :).

Now the car holds the road really well but on any sort of bump, big or small there is a horrible knocking/banging coming from the rear, ive been told that this could be down to the rubber mounts at the top of the shocks but they seem fairly new :/ soo im confused as to what the problem could be .. Any pointers would be really appreciated, cheers guys

HI mate,

you want to check the rear beam mounting bushes as they tend to go with age and high milage cars, they are easy to check but will require removing the rear beam but it's a case of pulling out your handbrake cables from under the centre console, disconnecting your brake lines (be careful not to break them) then there are 6 bolts under the boot lining and out it comes. also check your spare wheel rack is tight also as this can bang against the boot floor.

How many miles has it done?

there are no rubber mounts on top the the shock mate, it uses a torsion bar rear axle and the shocks are just hold together with mounting bolts.

Maybe,

Also look directly at the back of your motor and see if the rear wheels have any excessive camber on them, if so then your rear beam needs a rebuild (not cheap) best and cheapest solution is to replace it with one from a lower milage car, GTI6/xsi/hdi rear beams also fit just besure to swap your handbrake cables in the process with ones for the rear discs.
