206 gear stick

i've just bought my first car and i don't know how to get the gear stick off, its a 1.4 3dr PUG and all that i have found out about the problem is to cut it off, any advice??

that might be the only option mate, most just screw in.
can you get the gaiter off to look under it, see if theres a thread or grub screw to hold it in place

Depends if you have the standard gearknob, which you should be able to pull off after you've got the gaiter off. If you have the metal SP gearknob though, time to get the hacksaw out. Getting the knob itself off is a question of undoing a screw, but then there's a plastic bit glued on underneath, like a 5 inch long plastic sleeve which you'll need to cut away. Only thing you can do is persevere with it, it's a nightmare.

Aint got the metal SP gearknob so i'll give it a go yanking it off tomorrow, but i dont wana break it so does it take a lot of force??
