Hello and welcome to the forum. You will need the engine, ECU, gearbox, loom, brakes and some of the suspension components. A garage will charge quite a lot to do the conversion.

How handy are you with tools?

I'm not very handy.. will a 2.0 liter conversion cost me less and what will be the best engine to put in, cause my best friend is a petrol head but he makes everything to confusing..... please help

You'll find it hard to get the car legal if you do it yourself. The law was changed a little while ago to stop people doing dodgy conversions. All cars have to be inspected & given a "super MOT" to show the work was done compitently & that's it's not dangerous. You also have to provide all receipts & proof of ownership for all parts brought. I done a transplant between 2 mk6 escorts that I already owned & they were still a bit funny with me.

The 1.8T would be a good choice. I don't really know too much about VAGs though tbh.

depending on the age of the playa (we dont the trim here i think) then you might find that the 2.0 16v is an easier swap.

1.8t would require playing with the ecu to remove the immobiliser, ether that or you would have to install the instrument clocks and ignition barrel that came with the ECU.

the 20% gain is possible but he would probably end up spending as much as swapping but have a more stressed engine

as for the engine swapLowecase hes based in SA so laws are different

Hi Guys
