    Rover 25 1.4 2002

Hey Hull Rover, Good to have you on board. You've inspired me to look into adjusting the throttle housing thingy on my clio 1400cc 8valve. Does anyone know if i can do this? I've not yet looked at it in detail, except when attaching the induction element. Many Thankyous Jeff :-S

    Back to the standard 14"!

absolutely prevtec. A worth while experiment. put some new spark plugs in today and a little helping of injector cleaner in the fuel tank, so she's running charmingly. Oil, oil filter and fuel filter i'll just get kwik fit to do as i (me and lucas senior) had some trouble find the fuel filter...

    Back to the standard 14"!

Crikey - im only comfortable to get 65/70mph out of 3rd gear, any more and im too near the red! I'm glad im not your engine :-)
  15. J

    Back to the standard 14"!

there was only a 6lb difference in weight between the 15" and standard 14". This along with the additional traction of the wider tyre, caused a noticable drag effect. Wezzel I'm amazed to hear your performanced improved, and you must have the 60bhp engine correct? Anyway, im just pleased...

    HELP - Clio Exhaust Query

well ive got a K&N 57i kit on the front end so i thought that would keep it balanced if i then widened the exhaust pipes....??

    Back to the standard 14"!

So i'm relieved to say i've put the standard 14" wheels back on my clio, and what can i say, its like having a new car. MPG is already hugely different, i can rag the engine for 25/30 miles without denting the fuel tank. And performance, after a quick review of the installation of the...

    HELP - Exhaust query.

no its a four cylinder. 2.0 16v. I'm thinking the diameter is overall bigger, so gasses can escape quicker..leading to slight increase in bhp??? Correct me if im wrong :-)

    HELP - Exhaust query.

Sorry OG, i think i got over excited about finding out the info. Neglecting to mention what actual car its from wasnt intentional. Forgive me please. A clio sport mk2 172bhp model is where the exhaust is from. I'm wishfully thinking it may be free'er flowing than the system on my 1.4i 8v...

    HELP - Exhaust query.

thanks pgarner. i guess thats what i need to find out really , ive been looking on the KTEC website (renault tuning specialists) and each seperate part (manifold, cat back and catalyst) are all over 250 each, so i think if i can get the whole lot for 100 i'd be saving a penny or two. ill do...

    HELP - Clio Exhaust Query

Does anyone know If i fit a 2000 172 entire exhaust system, would i see any gains in my 1.4 8v? Thanks

    HELP - Exhaust query.

Just found entire exhaust system for a 172 which i could purchase for £100, if i put this on my standard 1.4 8v, am i likely to see any gains in performance? Thanks in advance :)

Have you ever hit or injured an animal or bird

Rabbits! All the time. Always make sure i go back and finish them off other wise they suffer unecessarily. Apart from that i've been lucky. Touch wood.

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

HDi i agree fuel guages are totally 'chocolate kettle', but the change in fuel figures has been instant, so much so its been like a slap in the face. Im going to see how much i get out of her over the next few days, there's are large dent in the fuel amount already and ive only done 45 miles...

I Need Some Advice And Help ! !

wish i had ten grand to spend, on anything!!!:-P All i can suggest is investiate thoroughly before you flash the cash. i was thinking of fitting a new manifold for 300 or so quid only to learn that it would essentially make no difference. Also, ive just put some new alloys on my clio, and...

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

just had work done on back brakes so all fine and front discs only 6 months old. i half filled her up again tonight, i then did a 25 mile journey and by 10 miles in the needle was beginning to drop from the half way point to the next point on the fuel gauge. in fairness it went back up a bit...

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

Oh no i wouldnt sell the wheels on immediately, i'd definately make sure all was back to normal before so. The engine does still pull nicely, but just takes longer in lower revs and feels like its generally pulling more weight. And the exhaust is fine as far as im aware. ok to try to explain...

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

Well HDi im still going to give it a couple more refills and see whats happening, to be honest i feel as if i dont need to though, its happening infront of my very eyes every time i turnover the engine! The oil change and filter changes may make a difference. but like i said before its too...
  31. J

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

waynne i honestly think it has to be the wheels, the loss of power also connects to this too. i really dont want to get rid of them and then have the hassle of selling them on also. But the fuel loss is so obvious, i can't do one relatively short journey now without the needle dropping...

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

as it happens its been 12,000 miles since last service. Hence buying all the bits today in time for a service either one night this week or at the weekend. However, surely its got to be something to do with the wheels as all this fuel loss malarky started straight after i put them on?!! I'm...

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

Thanks garner and hdi. Pgarner, the fact that you've changed to larger wheels and noticed no difference confirms my confusion. If that makes sense. Although i must add, a slight alteration such as wheel width and surface area on the road will affect my 75bhp clio far more than it will you...
  34. J

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

yeah you're right - i'll sit tight for a week or so. If the mpg remains around 33 then they will have to come off. Original mpg was a good 42 with induction kit etc. I can always sell the wheels on. Shame though as they look proper 'tidy'. :-S

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

so really, am i wrong in thinking fuel consumption increase by 1.9 % ?? Stab in the dark.

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

ok so ive been to kwik fit, they got it up on the ramp and confirmed NO faults. Advised me to 'check the forums'!! Luckily didn't charge me anything so chuffed about that. So still clueless about fuel loss but swung by halfords on way home and picked up new fuel&oil filters, and new oil &...

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

    weren't really rolling freely**
  39. J

New bigger alloys, drastic drop in mpg??

I suspect it could be the brakes. The front wheels were really rolling that freely when i changed them over. But surely this would have been noticeable before the wheel change?! Im gonna have to get her check out by a mechanic, my skills dont stretch as far as bearings and the like. Kwik fit...
