Honda K20 common problems and issues

The K20 is a brilliant engine and one of the most well known Honda engines out there. So it makes sense to have a dedicated forum thread to this engine so we can discuss the common problems and issues. On the K20, there are a few locations that are vulnerable or problemmatic and can need...

Common problems and weak areas on the D16

On the D16, there are certain weak spots and problematic areas. I'll be posting up some engine issue posts, and hopefully, others can add to them and we can discuss these problems together. The D16 engines are generally dependable and solid units, as long as you adhere to the manufacturer's...

Perodua Myvi sport 1.3 engine fault!!

The newer 1.5 is quite a nice engine, but you should also swap the gearbox. The K3-VET is a good swap if you want more power, that turbo makes all the difference.

Best car for Towing Caravans or Trailers?

4x4 is a good option, but also RWD. Something like a big block Mustang, although if you are cool enough to own a Mustang, would you also own a caravan? BMW and Audi estates also work quite well, they have power and weight to them and 4 wheel drive is also an option on those.

    Boost Pressure Question

Restrictive air filter perhaps? My guess would be the wastegate is blowing open fully and sending out the boost there. Even if it has a 3psi rated spring it may be failing or not enough when you hit full boost and it pops open and stays open.

    oil hose modification

Yes you shouldn't have a problem with clamps or clips. Rough up the inside edge slightly near the tip edge for better grip.

"The Next One" - Handcrafted Mid-Engine Sports Car

Always impressed with your work. Do you build these to order, or just make them and sell then when finished, or keep them as yours?

Are you ready for the new season!

I do the tyre checks regularly. Will be doing a full service in the next week. I usually leave it too late and end up working on the car in the cold and wet!

Is your car ready for E10 fuels?

Having read up on this further after your post, I am certainly worried. Surely they can't just switch the fuel at the pump without warning people it can cause major issues to their car! Is this just a way to get older cars off the roads? Dissolve their lines and seals so they break down?

    2019 Elantra shows 11 codes over 2 days......fml

Check the basics first, earth problems are usually the cause of lots of mystery error codes. IT sounds like it's in limp home mode is it running rich or lean? Is your air flow sensor and lambda sensor working?

Cold air engine intake in the aftermarket...and electrorefrigeration...?

Colder air does carry more oxygen, but induction kits are a waste of time, unless as you say you fit a cold air feed to them. On a turbo engine, the turbo will raise the intake temp considerably so an intercooler helps bring the air charge temp down a little so this makes the overall intake...

Lockdown car care tips and reminders

    Timing belt verses timing chain

Both chains and belts can stretch but belts do this more. The chains tend to last longer and are more reliable but they cost more to buy and fit and are a bit of pig to get the tension right. The rotation comes from the crank at the bottom of the engine so it's not practical to use cogs, and...

    JDM Cars

Japanese Domestic market, it refers to anything specified and sold in Japan. Japanese fuel is typically 100octane, much higher than we usually get in the UK so cars are optimised for this fuel. There are differences between countries. A true JDM car is usually imported rather than converted or...
