What a legend! The chap who built this monster... Found that it was eating wheel bearings, due to mid match between hubs and driveshafts all of the direct car but with different tapering on the ends, so to make sure that it was driaveble for my for then owners club Rally today, he stayed at...

Had two quotes. £180 or £300 Only reason I chose the highe quote is because it included a guaranteed 'agreed value' vs. 'market value'

So... update. Car failed it's MOT, but I've since found out that this was done deliverately. Engineer out the car in knowing it would fail on a couple of little jobs still to do (like no front number plate, or washer bottle fitted) just to make sure that there was nothing major it would...

Kind of have to, it's going to be insured with an 'agreed value' so need to calculate what's been poured into it to ascertain a true replacement cost to insure the car for. But I'd wager that once done I can blot it out with sufficient consumption of thinking juice...

Can somebody please reassure me that I've lost all of my marbles... I've just totted up what my new dash has cost to put together and I'm given to wonder... Hoping that somebody else who's seen a project of personal value through to the end and spared no expense to do so with a view to creating...

Painfully slow progress it feels like at times but 15days to go until I go home next and visit the 'LoonyPod' in the car hospital.... It 'should' be ready for first drive by then! :D:D:D Progress on other little details in the mean time, any day now I'll take delivery of a bespoke version of a...

Anybody have knowledge of 2WD QuadBikes?

hello to all. I'm considering a small production run of microcars based on the SECMA QT500 but using a more powerful 600cc engine. I'm thinking that (in an ideal world) I'll be able to use the (almost) complete power train from a RWD quadbike and have a bracket made up so that it's almost a...

Changing to Smiths guages, which ones to choose???

Hello everybody, As some of you know I'm (finally) nearing completion of a superbike powered MicroCar which is now affectionately known as the 'LoonyPod'. The car has a kind of retro look about it which I rather like and wish to continue the theme with the interior. I want to change the...

Hi OG, Sorry for the delay in answering, hadn't seen your most recent post until just now. Weight of the standard car is published on manufacturer's website beyond that it's guesswork for now, but I do intend to weigh it properly when it's finished. Local scrapyards usually have a drive on...

Hi guys, How are you all doing? Not much of an update yet, but I'm going back home for a couple of days at the beginning of December to visit friends, family and of course my little 'loony-pod' car, which 'should' be drivable by then...! :D:D:D Won't be put back on the road until spring but...

    Magnesium wheels and unsprung weight?

They are an expensive purchase too! I think I've pretty much arrived at the conclusion that the benefits will be minuscule compared to the cost/maintenance/set up issues they will cause. It's a road car (note to self) not a racing car and will likely be more capable than I am so really... the...

    Magnesium wheels and unsprung weight?

Thanks guys. New wheels weigh just 4kg each (class A) but I'm still trying to find out the weight of the original wheels to compare the weight difference. Car is still in build process so final drive can still be settled and tuned before it's finished. I'm just trying to decided if they are...

    Magnesium wheels and unsprung weight?

IF I go for these wheels it'll allow me to use 205/60/R13 tyres as opposed to 185/60/13 tyres... Am I correct in understanding that this (combined with lighter magnesium wheels) could/should lead to significantly improved handling?

    Magnesium wheels and unsprung weight?

hello everybody, I've just been offered a set of refurbished magnesium alloys for my project car. I have been considering buying a second set of wheels and tyres however the wheels I've been offered are 6J rather than 5.5J (still waiting to confirm OEM offset) now I realise that's not a huge...

For those interested; I've solved the power dilemma with the loony Pod! The best solution appears to be going the route of adding a 'Power-Commander' unit before setting up on a rolling road dyno The latest generation PC allows he use of dual ECU maps, in its usual application (Superbikes) it...

    Number plate slogans

hello peeps I've got a rather special little project car (now nearing completion) and I've just bought a private plate for it. The car is running Toyo Proxes R888R tyres (hence the plate choice) but I'm stuck for ideas for a slogan for the new plates and just thought I'd offer it up here...

:( Car wasn't ready to collect for the show last weekend (due to engineer stuck waiting on parts he's ordered apparently). Although I was a bit miffed at first I've realised that it probably for the best, it wouldn't have been 'finished' (as everything I want/imagined/planned completely...

Little tip (I should have shared yesterday...) when you do pretty much anything in sketch up, if you then enter numbers into your keypad the lady thing that you did will jump to that size. If for example you extruded a box but wanted to extrude it by exactly 10mm, you can use the 'pull' tool to...
