    Are you a good passenger

I have to be the worst passenger ever. I sit and cry in the passenger seat like a little girl if anyone goes over 60 lol. Just been in too many bad accidents with people who thought they could drive. These days, I don't trust anyones driving. Different story sitting beside my dad though, would...

    Jealousy or respect

Of course I get jealous. If it's something that really interests me, I'll always try and have a chat with the owner if possible. Sometimes you meet really decent people that just worked hard for what they have and you might even get taken for a spin.

How have mechanics let you down

I've been to a garage twice. First time to get a clutch in a Legacy. They didn't put the nuts on the end of the front driveshafts and didn't put the bolts in to hold the hub to the TCA. I noticed half a mile down the road after I nearly went through a hedge. Second time, left a Diasatra in to...

My uncle is a dab hand at sharpening bits on a bench grinder. Tried it myself and ended up with a load of bits 2" long that wouldn't drill a hole in balsa wood lol.

    PD vs CR engines

All completely in my own experience and opinion... Commonrail engines are a fantastic idea in theory. Max power v effiency, let the computer sort it all out. When it works, it's great, when it doesn't, it's just another bill at the end of the month. PD, when a cylinder needs fuel, it gets it...

Ideas on a type of garage

Google "Motor Gym Bangor" It's something similar to what you're talking about, you can have a look and see how they operate. I looked into doing something similar with a mate about 3 years ago but the public liability insurance was going to eat up all the profit and leave us on basically less...

Which muffler can make the loudest turbo sound for ur car?

A Cherry Bomb is probably as loud as you can get. I used to be a big fan of the Peco Big Bore 4. Can you still get them?

What is your worst journey in a car?

Worst journey? Used to have a '98 Legacy. Loved it to bits, hacked an Impreza WRX bumper and spoiler onto it and fitted a WRX engine. I thought it was the mutts nuts, there was nothing else like it at the time. Anyway, going to see The Misfits one night, one of my top 5 bands and the wheel fell...

Fun with deadly chemicals(Easy rust removal)

Sounds dangerous! lol! What I have found great for rust removal is plain old vinegar. You can buy it in chip shop gallons for buttons, put it in a bucket and leave the parts soaking in it. Electrolysis (?) also works. Seen a mate cleaning old parts with it in his garage and it seemed to work a...

What is the worst noise your car has ever made?

The BANG of a crash is one of the worst noises ever, however, I think it's the immediate silence afterwards that is the worst. The moment when everything hits home, you have to check if you're still alive and all your limbs are still working.

Ever have one of those days?

Had a fella come in to me today in an 05 TDCi Mondeo. "My car needs a driveshaft Baz, there's one in the boot, can you throw it in for me?" Sure I thought, half an hours work and a handy tenner. Put the car on the lift and took the old drive out. The one he had brought me was worse than the...

Most interesting load you have ever carried?

What's the most interesting load you have ever carried? Before I had the Sprinter for delivering parts, I had a 3 door TU engined 306. Used to fold the back seats down and throw whatever in the back. Managed to get 3 1.6 Vauxhall engines in the back one evening. Made for interesting handling...

Cat C and Cat D Cars

Sorry if I'm wrong but that's the way it is here in NI. I just assumed it was the same on the mainland. I took a cat C Clio up 3 months ago (only needed a wishbone and new wheel) and DVLNI informed me it had to be trailered there.

Cat C and Cat D Cars

VIC test is easy, they just check the chassis and engine numbers tally up with the V5. as Turbonutter69 says just contact VOSA an book it. Just remember though, the car has to go to the test centre on a trailer, you aren't allowed to drive it there.

Did you miss your last car

I miss most of my cars lol. I remember buying old bangers for £50, racing them round the forest for a day then scrapping them. Some of them are now worth £1,000 in any condition lol. As the saying goes, if I knew yesterday what I know today...

poss engine fault after fitting new induction kit

If you look at your original airbox, there should be a place where a small vacuum pipe going into it just below the airflow meter. Did you remember to blank off the vacuum pipe? Pushing a 3/16 or 4mm bolt into the end of it would be sufficient. I'm not saying this is your problem but it is...

Corsa d (induction or panel filter?)

By induction filter do you mean something like a K&N 57i cone filter jobby? They're a good job as long as you have a good cold air feed coming to it rather than just sucking warm air from the engine bay. I don't care what anyone says, ANY engine will benefit from better breathing. Half a...

Use 15,000 voltage for any useful purpose....

I remember being at a market once looking through tools, nearly all cheap Chinese sockets sets and screwdrivers, the sort of stuff that would break first time you used it. Seen a nice 4lb hammer, took it up to the man running the stall and asked him if it was working ok. He didn't know what way...

Cyclists love em or hate em

I used to really hate them then I had a conversation with a mate while driving along one day. Those guys are mentally ill out riding 40 miles in bucketing rain, I said. He said to me, they probably say the same thing about you standing out at the side of your house in the rain spending 4 hours...

    Kia V Dacia

My Dad had a wee accident in his Polo. Nothing major, just clipped the wing. We painted and fitted a new genuine VW wing and it's as good as new but he has now lost heart in it and fancies a change. He was big into fast Fords in the past but now he's getting a bit older now and just likes a car...

    drilling airbox

It might make a bit more noise (a nice noise I might add) but I wouldn't do it myself. You run the risk of sucking in dirt and damaging your AFM or throttle body. You'll also be sucking in warm air from the engine bay rather than the cold air from the feed pipe which could slightly blunt engine...

    New Car Search

4 completely different cars there! It would have to be the Scion for me. It's cheap, it's a Toyota and it looks cool as hell. The new Beetle looks cool but I don't think I could get over the fact it's really a tarted up Golf. The Fiat 500 is funky but it's just not really my cup of tea. I...

    Hello!

Thanks for the welcomes! I don't really keep anything long enough to modify it now. I usually buy something, tidy it up, drive it for a bit, sell it and buy something else. I was big into modifying when I was younger but now I tend to appreciate a nice, clean classic more. The only car I have...

    Hello Everyone

Hi there. Why don't you buy a diagnostic tool? Something like the Autel EU702 would be more than adequate for your needs and can be picked up for around £150 or less and provides details of fault codes with explanations and also displays live data.

How to make your own diesel bio fuel

I had a W124 in last week. It was filled with veg and there was an extra tank in the boot with diesel in it. You would run the car until it was warm from the diesel tank, flick a switch which operated a solenoid valve on the fuel line and switch to the veg. Great system and the car never missed...

    Exhaust bung.

I used to something like that on an old Subaru I had. It was called a 'tuneable' exhaust. There were 3 bungs something like the one you posted that you pushed up the tailpipe to get different levels of noise. They did work but I never bothered much with them :D
