Need help diagnosing a problem please

think you have misread, the noise is when I turn the car, the car is not turning itself. The washer fluid was leaking into the wheel arch so may have been soaking the bearing, i daresay the additives in the fluid may not have done the bearing or any lubricants there much good, but thats...

    How perfect is your bodywork?

i have various stone chips, but all toutched in to keept the rust at bay, nothing excessive for a car thats done wekk over 80k though, a scratch on the boot lid and a scratch on a door which i got from a close encounter with a tree/thornbush shrub thing on a narrow road

    Stretched tyres

the one thing that gets me is the assumption that "modern materials and designs" are assumed to be up to the job when stretched. That seems like a massive massive amount of short sightedness to me, and an assumption based on a total lack of evidence. New materials are certainly more robust...

Need help diagnosing a problem please

No play in the bearings at all or anywhere in the suspension, its going to be checked by a mechanic in a week or two, its going in as a favour for fixing a laptop. On the other hand i found i had a leak in my washer system which at speed could well have been dripping washer fluid in the area...

    Helping friends move house

For the most part moving house with a saloon limits the size of things you can transport to large suitcase size as the tail is not that huge. Though back when i had a hatch, anything that i could fit in was usually game as long as the person helped load it, pallettes, big ikea paintings...

    Best mate drive your car

One or two of the female learners i know i would probably let drive somewhere like a carpark but not on the road. As for my firends, no chance, most of them would probably keep on the gas till they have no chance of making the next corner then climb the first available tree...

    When others drive

A few of the works guys i work with i feel ok with as they are mature, family types who tend to be reasonably sensible drivers. But a lot of my friends are not the most responsible road users so i would probably not be a passenger with them. Though i have had a few first time passengers say...

    Help mee!

probably try for something like a smallish hatchback like a ford fiesta, pugeot 106, wv polo, fiat punto, vauxhaul corsa. None are particuarly fast or powerful but they are fairly agile and small. After market parts are pretty common, also they are not too complex to work on. Fairly simple...

    Sleeping in your car

just looked up the law, here is what the road traffic act has to say- (1)(b) above to prove that at the time he is alleged to have committed the offence the circumstances were such that there was no likelihood of his driving the vehicle whilst the proportion of alcohol in his breath, blood or...

    Sleeping in your car

One key peice of advice... do NOT do it drunk.. Sleeping in your car after drinking is classed as being drunk in charge of a vehicle whick leads to all sorts of court related "fun". You should be ok in private land at a race meet but public car parks after a night out etc is not advised.

Need help diagnosing a problem please

Im not sure which subforum is more approprate here as im not too sure on the cause of my problem. When i steer to the left at all (even a slow lane change) at any speed over about 35-40mph I get a fairly loud buzz/hum that sounds a little like the vibrate funtion on some mobile phones but a...

    just got a t5r

completely service it for a start (if you have not already). then intercooler, or a new turbo (not so cheap) are good first steps, you might also want to have a look at the intake and filter.

Is your car ready for winter

Mostly there, Antifreeze is good, need to put some neat screenwash in (currently good to about -8 but want it lower) Spare clothes/overnight bag including extra socks (very very recommended, cold wet feet are killer), Chocolate bars and biscuits, couple of bottles of lucozade too. Got some...

What air freshner do you have

An open jar of cinnamon sticks in the passenger door pocket... random i know but they have been going pretty strong for about 2 months now and waaay cheaper than a branded air freshner... Im not a fan of the stronger, synthetic scents so a little cinnamon is fairly nice.

    Are cars more secure

I would say they are far more secure, without a lift or trailer it is near impossible to steal a modern car without they keys, and even then once you have it without a lot of workshop and computer facilities to replace the keys the car will only be good for parts. Im not sure if car theft is...

    fuel saving upgrades

Keeping your car well serviced and driving sensibly will help much more than any modifications (bar possibly a smaller engine), i can see 8mpg or more difference simply by driving more agressively

Do you turn your engine off

Usually i turn it off on longer stops like bad traffic jams, accidents and so on. I would be careful doing this too often as i daresay you might manage to run down your battery if you do this too often, expecially in heavy city traffic.

    Fuel prices and the economy

I think fuel prices are high simply because of the the government wanting to maximise the income generated by tax. While we are digging out a massive pit o debt, i cannot see things going down. Though i would not hold much against the forecourts who seem to bear the brunt of the media anger...

    Easy cheap c2 power mods?

you might get away with an engine remap but it will almost certainly void the warranty, check with the dealer on that. My volly dealer claim they will honour warranty on a remap carried out by a company they recommend, i have not tested the validity of this claim however.
