How have mechanics let you down

Current classic has a K-Series 1.8VVC engine installed with all standard Rover ECU & loom. When purchased the car was always difficult to start off the key but always bumped ok, when hot it just wouldn't start off the key. Same autospark that sorted out my other problem in my Citroen had my...

    Grand Vitara "03 2,0Ltr Diesel

Cheers mate. This car was purchased as a stop gap replacement for a car I had written off & have enjoyed the experience so much that I can't find a reason to sell on. Looking very likely this will stay in my ownership for the foreseeable future. Willie.

How have mechanics let you down

Local garage cocked up my electronic speedo sensor wire when looking at hydraulic suspension problem then denied all knowledge but said they'd "have a look". Got car back, still no speedo so off to local autospark who found a broken sensor wire which he repaired restoring my speedo. Knew I...

    Grand Vitara "03 2,0Ltr Diesel

Mot time again, Vitara passed with advisories on front tyre wear (new tyres now fitted) & outer skin failing on exhaust back box (will have to fall off before I'll change that). Since purchase I've not been happy with the pressure on clutch pedal & this year decided to investigate. Had to be...

    Antara 2.2 SE

Look at any recent feedback on the Antara & it gets a reaaly good writeup now that it has the 2.2 Diesel option. The SE model is the one with higher spec, mines was an ex demo with 1900 miles on it & I persuaded the dealer to sell it as the 3 months demo period was just up. The leather interior...

    Antara 2.2 SE

Bought a Vauxhall Antara 2.2 SE 4x4 in March, one I would highly rate for doing exactly what it says on the tin, fantastic engine returning 28mpg around town. Still have my 03 Vitara 5 door 2.0 ltr Diesel which has become my "work hack" now.

    Astra VXR Racing

I've traded my very low mileage 59 plate red VXR Racing for a 2.2 Antara. Why, because I've now got myself a Labrador & it suits my needs better. Loved the VXR for what it was but wasn't an everyday car I could use for work so had to go. Still got a Vauxhall though!!

    Grand Vitara "03 2,0Ltr Diesel

Temperature sensor & the engine management relay replaced & all seems fine thus far. I use the Vitara for work (I have to supply own vehicle) & will be pressed back into service for rest of week until I break off for Chistmas & New Year this Friday

Suzuki Grand Vitara "03 2.0Ltr Diesel

Just bought a Grand Vitara & found a couple of electrical glitches regarding starting & temperature control, have posted issues on the Suzuki forum but perhaps this was the more suitable one. Auto electrician tested car & found the temp sensor giving random & erratic readings causing issues...

    Grand Vitara "03 2,0Ltr Diesel

Hi, just bought a 2.0Ltr Diesel "03 plate Vitara with electrical problems. Eratic temperatures confusing the ECU re cold/warm starting & bringing the rad fan on at random, new sensor on order. Car would fire then stop once key released, the immobiliser relay likely at fault & not always...

    Astra VXR Heater

Cheers all, will have to check both cars out side by side over weekend (nothing special on that I can think of!) regarding the heater & connecting hoses. Although my car, a 09 2.0Ltr Turbo VXR Racing model, does heat up & blow warm air it's about a third as powerful fan at same setting as the...

    Astra VXR Heater

My partners "59 reg SRi has a fantastic heater, quick to reach temperature & the fan settings seem to be blowing twice as hard & hot as my VXR. Anybody enlighten me as to any known differences between the 2 models & their heaters?

    Vauxhall Astra Brakes

Stripped & cleaned brakes today, whatever was causing my squealing has now gone, some use of copper slip on the back of the pads may have just done the trick as suggested by my mate who's garage & ramp I was using to carry out the work. I want one, a 2 post 4 arm ramp with rubber buffers on...

    Vauxhall Astra Brakes

In agreement with all that has been advised, I won't be taking the word of a clerical assistant who is trying her best not to say the wrong thing & keeps Vauxhall & the dealership clear of blame until I "book in the car for a preliminary investigation, if found to be a warranty issue it's free...

    Vauxhall Astra Brakes

Mate of mines Signam, 18K miles, has squealing brakes when applied at any speed, local dealer said pads required at his cost, got them done to no avail. Dealer now saying it's pads & discs that's required at his cost as not covered under his new car warranty (just over 1 year old). He found a...

    Astra VXR Racing

I was torn between a Corsa VXR Racing 2nd hand or the Astra I eventually settled on purely for the extra interior & boot space, have to admit it's smiles per miles when used. Had an email from dealer regarding a service due, will investigate the Remus exhaust price with them prior to booking...

    Ins Cert.

Ins certificate arrived today, home from work in Robin BN1, 25 miles from Tay bridge to mine, picked up documents & off to local post office. VXR with me at work this afternoon, I have to supply own car to travel throughout Fife hence the cheap & cheerful Robin BN1 at 50mpg, the 240bhp was...

    Ins Cert.

Online an option before 1st of month but I waited until 4th & pay day to get the tax. Astra rarely gets used when I'm working so it sitting in the garage wasn't too much of a problem, I now have to wait on the paper certificate of insurance to get the tax ot local post office. I will be making...

Astra VXR due it's rent, pay day yesterday so hunted out insurance doc's to find only last years. After a bit of head scratching I remembered changing companies last year, having 3 other cars insured I wasn't too sure who I had insured the VXR with. Eventually found a letter from More Than to...

I really missed that Vectra Design, had full cream leather, pearlescent black paint, gold 18" alloys, climate with sunroof, cruise etc etc. & it was a diesel, a real one of with almost every option. Managed to buy an Astra VXR Racing last year, took the sting out of it a little, ok a lot, ok I...

    Vauxhall Astra VXR

Why not be a little more patient as I did until you get a VXR (I have an Astra VXR Racing in red) build up your ncd & like me pay just over £300 for fully comp with all the bells & whistles added? Saying that I maybe waited a little too long as I'm 53 now!!

Re: Astra VXR Racing S/S Exhaust I am lucky in having Falkland Performance Centre & RJM Motors on my doorstep who both make bespoke S/S exhausts should an aftermarket one not be available. Will search around the sites suggested 1st though.

    Hi All

Would like to chip the VXR, have a complete S/S big bore exhaust fitted & perhaps a set of new alloys. The MGB GT is either going to be sold as is or get a winter body job, have already got 2 new front wings, bonnet & full n/s rear wing only needing 2 door skins, a half o/s rear wing & rear...

    Hi All

Hi, yes it's the Astra, number 487 of the run of 500 produced as VXR Racings. It was so good my partner traded in her 07 MG TF for an Astra SRi as she loved driving it so much. Have to say I rarely use it as it has it's own garage space & requires moving other cars to get it out hence covering...
