    Car Service

For doing mobile services, what would you advice to put on the floor of people's drives..? I'm thinking of a plastic sheet on the floor over the front part of the car and then a sheet of some sort to soak up anything that drips, and then it would have the plastic as a backup incase it leaks...

    a question about air conditioning

Some cars are fitted with a mechanism that increases the RPM when the aircon is switched on. As you already know when you turn the aircon on the RPM of the car drops and the car slows down, your car has probably got this mechanism (dont know how it works) that increases the RPM so the...

    The invisible brake pedal

Yeah I had that problem. A mate of mine where I work tried out a car I was selling on a private road. He actually managed to drive up the bank. I could of jumped out the car when the end of the road was coming up.

    Chipping or Re-Mapping

I would, not worth the risk. If you are involved in a serious crash resulting in people getting injured or worse.., I'm pretty sure they would find out if it's been tuned or not, specially if you get the tuning box. And if you haven't told the insurance about it.. then its basically the end of...

    Chipping or Re-Mapping

Could I just ask what your mileage is? I'm thinking of getting mine done (1.9tdi passat), its 115bhp but its done 140k miles which I'm thinking is a bit too far to be gettting it remapped?

    Baleno knocking noise

Is it a knocking noise when you go over a bumpy surface? I've had problems like this with these cars and others. It maybe the roll bar linkage that bolts to the wishbone, sometimes the rubber wears and it ends up a dull knocking noise when you go over bumps... when its jacked up you will only...

    wheel nuts

If I'm honest I have no idea but you could try. Just go on ebay and find someone breaking a saxo vtr and ask how much they want for their wheel nuts, shouldn't be too much. I would link you to some vtr's being broken but I dont know if I'm allowed to. Why cant you use the 306 wheel nuts?

    Diagnostic Checks

As some of you know, starting mobile service, I have unexpectedly managed to find a garage to use so I can do mobile and work in my own garage. I'm looking into doing diagnostic checks and getting all the tools and software now. Need to do my research about it though, I am getting a laptop...

Most pointless features in a car

Armrest... really? If they are the same as in the Passat I love it, makes changing gear alot easier for me, as for the handbrake, just lean to the right and its fine :p. And yeah... brakes, what are they all about?!? :p

    Vauxhall Astra VXR

Yeah I shall be doing that :). My girlfriend's dad said if I paid him a bit of money I could use his unit you could probably fit about 5/6 cars in there. It's about 5 minutes away from the centre of the town. Made my day, now I can do mobile repairs/service and if it's raining, the person can...

Engine Brake vs the Foot Pedals

I think in normal conditions cars with ABS, doesn't really matter, wheels don't lock up in that case with the foot brake. Yeah icy condition definitely use the engine if you can. I use both too, specially coming upto roundabouts. Though I do prefer to use the brake if I can, as I consider it...

    Vauxhall Astra VXR

Oh, would anyone be able to suggest any cheap insurance companies? I've found that sites like moneysupermarket are just a rip off.. One quote I got for being 18, been driving for a year on a 1L Fiat Seicento was £1800 a year.

    Vauxhall Astra VXR

No well when I'm 19 (next week) I shall be going on my own policy and declare that I'm using the car for business too. My friend has a VXR and he's 20 and its £800 a year for him, just a dream really, I couldnt never afford a VXR yet anyway :p

    Vauxhall Astra VXR

At the moment, I'm 18 (19 next week) and I have a 2000 1.9 TDi Passat, the insurance on that as a named driver is around £900 a year. Do you think I could afford to insure a 2L Turbo Astra VXR at 19 as a named driver? Anyone think it would be over or under £1500 a year?

    Car Service

At the moment I'm just servicing/repairing friend's cars for free (cost of parts) just to get more experience. Once I start dealing with actual customers I shall look into doing everything people say on here. I must say this is a very helpful forum with lots of friendly, understanding...

    Car Service

I shall take the required licenses in the future once it kicks off. I shall definitely look around for traders insurance. As for licenses, what would I need? I've been told by others that I would need a waste license to carry the oil around, I'd need a license (or something similar) to work on...

    Car Service

Well starting off quite small, so just probably East Sussex area. Being only 19 that limits me on towing, think I need to take another license for towing. Would I need to for a recovery truck? Again, as I'm starting off small then I probably wont charge for call out (or a very small amount)...

    Car Service

I have tried looking into getting motor trade insurance (allowing me to drive any car) but as I am only 19, I cant get it as most, if not all insurance companies I've found say you have to be at least 21, 23 in most cases.. :(
