206 GTI track car project

Hi guys after what has been around 6-7 years i have finally got myself back into 206 ownership.
our last gti was sold on as we were expecting our first child so something a tad more practical was required.

anyway iv had an itch to get into trackdays for a while so started the search or something suitable and not bank breaking to purchase, straight away i just thought id love track a 206 and within 48 hours i had fount a motor under an hour away and at a good price.

so today i headed out did all the relevant checks and struck a deal or £1100 i will be collecting the car next weekend and then the fun can begin.

got alot of plans in the pipeline which will see it into a very capable and fun track car, it will certainly be staying n/a and be an absolute screamer

first jobs are to get it stripped out and fit a set of coilovers

i will upload pics asap

looking forward to the journey

Unfortunately most modern cars engine bays are sooo tightly packed it can be difficult to gain access to to things like the water pump and alternator and the drive belts and the specialists know how best to tackle them and minimise injuries to their hands without too much swearing.
hi mate, yes that's the case here as i did a bit of research on belt change etc and it showed me it was best to get the engine of is mounts and tilt the engine forward and even hen its a tad tight. This was why i was going to do it at my mates local garage and sorted out non other then 3 seperae dates that i could have use of 1 of his ramps at a weekend but it never happened :(.

in good hands now over in north wales with my best mate who tells me the belt and pump will be done this weekend and when im over the following weekend i might even get some time to rattle a couple of jobs off with him.
Thanks for the updates, this is always an interesting read.
thanks alot im glad you enjoy reading

Had a stay over at my good mates Matt of OCD Productions in north Wales last weekend, got his living room painted for him and watched the boxing on Saturday night, it was great to see Kell Brook put that grudge to bed in dominating fashion.

Had to get a few pics of the GTi whilst there, watch this space over the coming weeks for some progress updates

pleased to report that the new water pump and cam belt kit have been fitted alongside the baker bm engine mount kit and powerflex lower rear engine mount.

nice positive steps being taken and the mounts will certainly help things.

next on the list is to fit the new 307cc brake set up, this will increase disk size from 266mm to 302mm and fit just nice under the 16" wheels, i also have new rear brakes to go on at the same time along with a set of goodridge brake hoses :)

i have also been buying a few more parts for the car one of which is the new omp wrc steering wheel

All danST supplied Throttle Bodies undergo a comprehensive inspection, strip, ultrasonic clean and rebuild process.

Kits can be customised to your requirements (eg delete the filter should you wish to utilise another solution). Buy these now and have your cars performance increased ready for the summer season! We can also supply the following additional items to aid your ITB conversion:

Standalone Engine Management ECU's (ME221 or Omex 600) with relevant wiring looms

Various Sensors (crank position, air temp, water temp)

NOTE! This kit will require a standalone ECU to run the injectors and your engine's ignition system.

these will be matched up to a fully ported head from AL Developments and Newman PH4 cams
:)

We should see anywhere in the region of 200-215bhp all being well.

Nice read, clear ideas on work required. Handling and braking 1st, performance later. Common brakes used are the 4 pot Brembos off the coupe.

Andy mate you are making me very envious. Would love a set for my Honda.
get it done matey :)

thanks alot fella, no point going quick if the thing cant stop and take the bends well.

few little updates for anyone interested

carbon fibre door cards should arrive either tomorrow or monday

the car now has a fresh 12 months MOT and it passed without a single advisory, which for a 2005 car what i paid a grand for cant be bad.

new rear brakes and braided brake lines have been fitted

next on the list is get the front brakes and braided lines on, sportex centre section and then coilovers.

one thing that has become noticable is the cars now running rather rich since fitting the exhaust manifold, so once its back here ill get my mate at gt motorsport to map it as is for me this will do for the time being and keep things safe.

really cant wait get back out in this thing, will certainly have a more drivers focused feel to it.

got quite a few updates that have happened over the last month

firstly the new front brake set up was fitted

vmaxx coilovers have been fitted and already has really made the car feel more planted, just working out how much to drop the ride height now, possibly between 35-50mm

coming together really well now few more jobs to get done but were not far off at all

yesterday i decided to come home from my rsmats in my 206, it was my first chance to drive it since having the mods above carried out and it put some much needed miles onto it.

i can report back that the new brakes are a huge improvement over standard and that's just with normal road pads in there. Also the vmaxx coilovers i cant speak highly enough of, ride quality is still spot on and it feels so much more tight now and this is still at standard ride height. Uprated engine mounts are certainly doing what they are meant to as there is now no knocking from anywhere in the bay and the steering wheel has made a positive feel on the driving experience.

the car will be returning to rsmat within the next couple of weeks so the remaining bits can be done, all in all a massive step forward been made and happy with the car.

i decided to give the car a quick wash when i got home and put here away in the garage, im going to replace the lcd display later today also.

Go easy on the weights then xD
There is just something nice about a 206 on a track.
them things just come with us from the old house (we moved in april)

Funny thing is I was well and truly hitting the gym and sorted my diet etc out at start of the year, snapped my trap muscle and hurt my back (2 different occasions) and fell off the waggon big time.

Dya know what mate they really work well once sorted as well.

Thats one hell of a pain to go through for one person, i hope youre feeling better now.
I have a 206 too, i love it to death but its a hdi. As soon as i get my hands on a garage of any kind ill be either modding it or swapping something nonsensical in it, whatever comes first lol.
I was meaning to ask you about coilovers and general suspension mods if you know more about it, im looking for something rather affordable, best bang for a buck, how was your experience regarding that on the 206 so far, any recommendations?

i have good and bad days, my old back injury flared up again last weekend and has been giving me so much grief this week, but im now off for 4 days so ill rest it best i can.

the hdi can be tuned theres someone local to me with one that's done a fair old bit to there's.

Yes mate i'm not sure if you read above i massively rate thee vmaxx coilovers that we recently fitted to my car, id say they are attt the high end of the budget brands.

im hoping the link below takes you straight to yours

https://www.v-maxx.com/en/products/coilover-kits#results

The site is really odd looking but thank you for the link, at least i got the name i can look for :D
The OEM ones i got make the car behave like a boat, literally, sitting in the car at a red light i swing my leg out of boredom and the entire car shakes left to right noticeably lol not to mention passengers doing anything its quite hilarious.

Have you looked into thicker sway bars by any chance, i couldnt find any on my own that would ship worldwide.

the best ones are from a gti 180 model so if you can find one of them being broke or bits on ebay thats best bet
