Hey guys,

I have an evo4, which i recently had de-restricted... but just my luck, the rubber seal on my dipstick was worn and the dipstick popped out while test driving... and now there is back pressure... :sad2:, so ive decided to rebuild my baby... with bigger, better parts....

i just wanted some tips on what is the best way of doing this...

i was thinking (in this order);

1. bore block to 86mm
2. purchase pistons (which ones are good?)
3. grind and polish or just polish crank with ACL racing bearings.. (main and big ends)
4. very lighly skim head, full head gasket set
5. stainless steel manifolds (exhaust and turbo)
6. downpipe with extension
7. bigger injectors?
8. bigger turbo?
9. remap ecu
10. get back on the road with a monster....

any suggestions, would be much appreciated....

thanks in advance

Mej.

Not really you seem to know what you're doing. Make sure you get everything lightened and balanced together and don't skimp on ancillaires like the oil pump. You'd be a fool to not put a brand new one in.

I'll just say...make sure you know what you want from the engine before you start buying parts for it/building it. This brings me into compression ratio too. You need to decide what sort of build and compression ratio you are aiming for. For example, if you decide you want massive power you may well need massive boost and therefore aiming for a high static CR is no good.

Who's building the engine? If it is an experienced engine builder he should be able to inform you of the finer details and help you decide what to do. If it's yourself and you don't understand any of the above, I suggest you do a lot of research before attempting a build yourself.

i have my own garage, so i do believe my mechanic is very capable of doing this engine rebuild... oh the oil pump, i completely forgot that... this will be only a weekend car, so im looking for power... remapping, turbo boost and gauges will be done by a specialist...

thanks for all your help..
