I have the level 1 OBDII add-on from these people on my '98 Tahoe, it has definitely helped. So this:

makes me wonder. I imagine it's basically holding the electrical system up to nominal from the get-go...
My '98 Tahoe has to sit a bit more than it's been used to, with fuel prices hiked a lot, so I put some of the most common fuel stabilizer I've seen here -- Sta-Bil:

in the tank with fresh gas. And I was surprised. It helped a lot...
Just realized that one of my happier yet very out-of-band habits hadn't made it here yet. For several years I have been adding one ounce of 2.5-micron HBN to oil changes in my '98 Chevrolet Tahoe. Usually I mix it with one of the quarts of oil. Definite improvement. Feathering the gas...
I've finally got Stage I of my rig to throw ionized air into the intake, in apparently stable condition, the gotchas seem to be under good control. So now I need to build Stage II :-) After trying a number of things, the simplest seems to be a switch to "detect" throttle position. Anyone have...
Speaking of temperature. I need to have my current very-special-electrical turn off when air temperature is lower than 20F (6.7C), and I had an uncheap waterproof snap-disc, but the only one I could find snapped at 14F, too low. So more recently I found the below. This is one of a series of...
The biggest reason on vehicles I've worked on isn't airspeed -- it's temperature. A large proportion of aftermarket air intakes take general engine-compartment air into the engine, which is an awful idea in a Topeka, Kansas summer with outside ambient at 100F / 38C. I am told that a lot of...
And thanks for the PCV education :-) You sure put a lot of good info into that one sentence there, and I really do enjoy learning about own-built improvements over OEM any day of the week!
I do like 1V to start, if you're going with a clip immediately.
I have run K&N, but I should say, I do...
It was kind of fun, Ray, seeing those comments. But I'm very grateful for you and Waynne and others with uncrisped brains :)
And indeed, I remember seeing that patent -- which expired in 2013 :) It's equally interesting to read the specifics of what is being patented: it's an "apparatus" with...
Hi, Ray! Indeed, those 70s ionizers I remember from the Popular Mechanics magazines my grandfather gave us :) I didn't have the motivation+funds to buy one until the late 90s, learned a bit. In the last 15 years or so there has been quite the explosion of negative ionizer units, often...
Will do. Good to see you back. To be very specific, I have ordered one of these:
https://www.napaonline.com/accessories/afe-pro-dry-s-air-filter?set-vehicle=1
an aFe 11-10005, fits lots of trucks. aFe has a wide range, though I'll imagine there are vehicles they can't fit.
Yup. I think that I can go even cruder for now: a microswitch thrown by the accelerator lever. The NO2 folks seem to be doing a lot of that, and I think it fits the situation OK, because Stage 2 needs to turn on a bit off-idle.
Well, I've starting thinking again (that can be dangerous) about my charged-air project. It's very nice and stable now. So it's time to think about a next level. Probably a "secondary", turned on (optimally) when airflow rises in the filter compartment. I tried a couple very popular tach...
Found just one:
https://afepower.com/afe-power-11-10005-magnum-flow-pro-dry-s-air-filter
And it looks good, we'll see what happens. ETA a couple of weeks or so. Was tough to find. Eventually found it here:

AAG has been very responsive and easy to work...
