they are above the fuses when you take the fuse cover off (being double jointed in the wrist/elbow helps when you try and get them in & out!)

Has it got the self adjusting cable thingy? If so you try disconnecting it while you fit the cable into the arm and then reconnecting once it is in - worked on my mark3...

Thanks for the advice everyone, was definitely useful! Last night took the fuse out and put it back in (was ok), gave the relay a bit of a rattle in its socket and lo and behold the fuel pump was back to normal and car now running sweet as a nut (woohoo!).

Thanks for the advice everyone, have managed to get boot open from inside and a large screwdriver with the help of some gentle percussive engineering was indeed my friend in getting the petrol cap open ;) Just waiting for the lockset to arrive now and will soon be sorted...

Think there's only the fuel pressure regulator under the bonnet but not sure - will consult mr. haynes when get in from work and see if there's any mention of one...
