106 Engine Swap

Does anyone have any suggestions of where I can obtain a GTi engine for my Phase 2 106? I have the XS model which produces 90 bhp. I have looked at mild street cams and various other upgrades for my car but I feel there is little point with the engine I currently have. Even with the upgrades I have considered, the GTi engine has more power. If I could get hold of one then apply the upgrades, I'd have a car to be proud of. Any help much appreciated. Moz.

Alright mate, welcome to the forum! You will need to make sure the new engine will fit. I've heard some stories about 106s not having enough room for big engines. The 106 GTi engine is probably your best bet. They can be tuned quite nicely, combined with the lightweight nature of the 106 it'll go like a rocket! I saw a 106 GTi that had twin turbos on it...produced 250 BHP I think...I bet that went!!

Before you drop in the new engine though I would recommend upgrading the brakes. But credit for starting in the right way! :)

wow 3.0 l in a 106 this i got to see....

which engine have you got in your motor at the moment?

1.4 16v or the 1.6 8v?

because you'd be surprised with what you've go already.....

My old 1.1 106 had a turbo slapped on it and a few other little bits and peices and I was running it at 106BHP, it could quite happily keep up with Saxo VTR's and the 106 Gti.

The GTi engine conversion is a very good idea as the TU engine is a wicked little powerhouse that, when tuned properly will surprise bigger and more powerful cars.

An example of a truly amazing GTi is on YouTube, just search for '106GTi' and you'll see a GTi walk all over an Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 V6. It is truly awe inspiring and proves that Pug really did make a decent little engine.

I think the XS lower mounts are able to support the GTi engine and the best place to go for tuning etc is Eccosse, they really are the Pug specialists. Check them out and they also give free advice on where to get re-cond engines from and the prices you can expect. They may also fill you in on a few little tricks you can do which will have your car way ahead of the competition.

hi there i got a rover ti but am wanted a 106 turbo how do i start which engine is gd

Right first of all how much is your budget? I think with abit of work the renault 19 turbo engine may fit also i think the R5 turbo fits with some mods. I'm not 100% sure on this though but i'm sure someone else maybe able to help you out.

well my budget is around 2000 pounds for engine and looms . ecu gear box. can i fit the engine my self if i never done it b4. wat will fit in the engine bay

I couldn't tell you exactly what fits and prices but I have seen people do gti engine conversions and turbo them. If you get enough info about it then you may be able to do it yourself but my advice would be to speak to a specialist garage. Ci-tuning do work on Peugeots as well as Prima Racing...

ok mate but i was thinking of diffrent engine only 1.4 xsi and turbo it . wat will i need for the compessions and wat turbo is ok small will go togetter

Then why not see if a R5 turbo engine fits.. Like I say talk to a garage and ask their thoughts you won't pay for just a query...

mate to the best of my knowledge renault didnt do a 19 turbo

how long will this engine swap take with ecu to power on. if i didnt know nothing abt swaps . 1.4 xsi turbo

It depends on how much fabrication is needed. But I think you'd be better with an engine that is already a turbo than trying to turbo a 1.4. It would cost too much. An R5 turbo engine would be ideal for this project IMHO....

yeh thats gd idea . how much can i pick the engine and looms for. so do i need a gearbox from r5 gt. and drive shafts. wat bhp do they go to.

I'm not sure myself this is something you may have to research. But pug conversion are very common these days so I'm sure you'll find plenty of info out there. Why not think about spending the money on the Ti that is already turbo so you could spend all the cash on the engine.....

yeh can do but i wana get in to engine swaps . and how to fix cars. am ok with the speed on the ti and its for sale so no mate.

azzy does your next car have to be a turbo 106 ??? cause if not there are plenty of corsa/nova/astra c20xe/c20let which are cheap at the minuet and are alot of fun

I may be thinking of the 21 conversion into a 19.... I'll investigate cause I though they made a 19 turbo... I'll stand corrected if i'm wrong though..

get standing :toung: and tbh i have seen the 21 turbo put in a 19 and a clio so i could see where you may have your wires crossed mate :amuse:

I am pretty sure though I have seen a standard 19 turbo. Was a young boy then an like I say I could be mistaken. I'll investigate....

Thats very very true. You can pick up a decent 200sx turbo for that money...
ive heard people mention these over the years but never really looked at them but now just google imaged 1 and what turns up a silvia a mate of mine 10+ years ago had 1 and it was fairly rapid but he did get banned in it for racing a copper in a mk2 astra gte :amazed:
