Right my mum has a noise on her Freelander when turning. The noise is somewhere on the back. To me it sounds like some cogs are out of line or something. Anyone else had a prob like this? It's a loud knocking sound.
I've been told it might be the C.V. boots but i'm leaning towards the diff myself.

I'd plump for the diff as well. Has the freelander been serviced recently? It might just need a lubrication service.

Does it go away when it warms up or is it there all the time and does it matter which way it turns?

would be worth changing tthe diff oils but normaly once they get to the stage they are knocking they have warn to much

but does sound like the diff if the noise is coming from the rear

Not sure mate. I've sourced the noise now anyway. I think the part is around £40. It's a worn bearing on the rear of the V.C. It's a bearing/bracket type thingy that holds the propshaft steady.

called a doughnut

they are comman on them have changed a few

what ever you do when you are fitting it dont cut the plastic band around the out side of the new one untill its fitted or you wont get it fitted

you can fix my landrover as well if you want lol

only needs the front wheel bearing doning new stub axle while you are there
and a front prop shaft

then maybe a service lol

need to fix mine before i go off roading again
