agree, i hate the mr2 - ferrari 355, the reason i hate mr2 and love the 355Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery
Tastefully done replicas are a means of showing your appreciation for a rare car or a one off, be it a styling exercise or race car.
That photo looks like a Honda coupe trying to look like a Skyline.
And those jap cars that get converted to look like a Ferrari, why? Never understood the need to go that far, pointless and a good way of spending alot of money with very little chance of recuperation, might as well buy the real McCoy imo.
An AC Cobra is a kit car isn't it? An I just thought we was on about immitations like making a standard escort Mk5 looks like a cossie?
AC Cobras are not kit cars. The replicas, however, are (mostly).
Genuine AC Cobras were built by AC Cars and Caroll Shelby. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC_Cobra
IMO the thread is about replicas, however they are produced.
IMO (again) I think that the AC Corba replica is probably one of the few imitations that actually work. Hell, there is even a club for them!
Personally I'm not into replicas. I don't see the point in badging up a non-Type R as a Type R, or a non-GTR as a GTR.
I know about the original Cobra but we was talking about replica Cobra's which I thought came under the Kit Car catorgery. The original Ac Cobra was banned for being to insane..... I'd have 1. A proper 1 that is.
Do Caterhams & Westfeilds count as replicas or are they built under licence or sumfink?
My daughters boyfriend saw a sad replica the other day, twas a Saxo VTS, had the kit, the badges and the looks....................except he noticed one of the 'alloy' wheels had its hubcap missing exposing a 3 stud wheel :blink1:
Whereupon he said "nice 1.1 mate!"
sorry tn69 the webpage you gave even lists it as a replicahttp://www.daxcars.co.uk/tojeiro/tojerioreviews/cobra.htm said:The Tojeiro is properly engineered and performs well; it isn't the cheapest Cobra replica on the market but neither is it the dearest and if you appreciate quality and service this is certainly one to consider.
sorry tn69 the webpage you gave even lists it as a replica
It might replicate a Cobra yes but it is infact a kit car. What i'm getting at is you can't buy any production car an make it like a cobra. You have to built one from scratch. Like using sierra chassis and mating it to a big v8. It's not like buying a Mk5 escort and making it look like a cossie is it? Thats what I see as a replica. Like I said before in my opinion a Cobra is a kit car.
Some replicas are replicas of tasteful classic cars and to a certain extent tuned or engined to match the origional, these I can appreciate, but others are poor copies of modern cars for example the fiero/mr2 items which in no way match the real thing, these personally I don't like and normally assume are driven by people with no self respect who more than likely never left home and probably live around the Slough area, (It seems every time I am on the M4 around Slough I see one, Also they are so easy to spot from thr real thing, Anyone remember the metro based Audi tt replica, I think it was bantam or something, You would not need family planning if you owned one of those,
Maybe not how many try to make replicas of lower models ? most try to make a top model
