Whilst collecting photos and stuff for my history of my Elan build, I came across these.

These aren't condoning street racing and I claim mitigating circumstances :) Roads were quieter and cars slower back in th elate 70s. We only raced on dual carriageways with no side turnings. We turned up, a couple of cars blocked the road behind us, we staged, raced the 1/4 mile then scarpered back to the pub.

If you are unhappy with this Waynne, please remove.

Love it! I doubt if you have changed that much :)

No doubt the same thing would happen today, would love to re-quote a couple of lines there! ;)
These days the same old pub talk etc. Did you get many takers?

Probably not :)

Re-quote away. I like to think that I coined the "all fart etc'" phrase :)

No, we didn't. Very few people were prepared to back up their bragging. Big fish in a small pond but the Elan was pretty quick and well known locally.

I found that as well into the 80s where there were many lookalikes and few real drivers cars out there. My old Firenza, although heavy, was pretty quick and me a few mates used to do similar things around Pompey. I knew of these twins who had a mk1 Escort twin cam that used to play havoc and take on anyone, those that fell for it drove Escorts but very few knew of these BDA powered ones such was the ignorance. Those were the days!
