what oil

What does Ford recommend? Treat this as a minimum spec. and go from there.

I suggest that everyone goes fully synthetic - synthetic oils are superior in every way to both blended and 100% mineral oils..

Consider when the car was made, and that its handbook was printed some time ago.

So take anything contained therein on a historical basis only.

Oil technology moves on.

Mate......

You've gone backwards, Escorts of the same era were never as good as 306s read any review,
Seriously though, what's the problem, I haven't really had any major trouble with mine,

And yes you need to get another oil burner mate, it's the way forward

I tried that once. Put fully synthetic in a Metro Gta I had years ago. It hated it tbh. Eat it like no tomorrow and made the car chuck loads of smoke out until I flushed it.

It had been flushed it just didn't like the fully synthetic stuff. It was the same weight just fully synthetic.

I have heard of this on more than one occasion but it's still a fairly unusual situation.

Did it clean up its act after refilling with semi/mineral oil or did the synthetic completely shaft the engine?

Strange result though. I know some people have had problems moving to synthetic after years on mineral oils, and likewise the other way round has caused problems as well.

Perhaps engine get a taste for the stuff with which they're familiar?? Like what I know and know what I like kind of thing.

was the escort 1.6 zetec.m registered.fully synthetic or semi.or should it have mineral.has done 200 thou.still pulls strong tho no smoke does not burn any oil.engine is really quiet at tickover or at high revs.full service history at ford upto 150 thou.any advice welcome.cheers chaps.

200,000 miles...nice, I bet you got that car for about £100, lol's

Get a 306 and be done with it....lol

Seriously though, Fully synthetic would be good at this point to prolong the life of the engine. 5w-30, go for an ester base stock fully synthetic. Fuchs titan is good and reasonably priced

cheers bud.i do miss my pug i have to admit.but i had those problems at xmas with the starting.it kept playing up.needed a reliable car.got this escort to use till i decide what car i want to get to mod.lots of tax and test.bet you cant wait to do all the mods on your old girl.its gonna shock a few petrol heads when you smoke them from the lights.pardon the pun.thanks for info on oil.
