micra turbo diesel
I have a turbo diesel micra 2010, its been lowered 60mm, 17 wolfrace kn filter and power box. If I took the back box of and just put a 50mm round length of exhaust pipe what would happen. back pressure would be ok not high and I may get a better sound , I did put on a cherry bomb but it don't fit right do to shape , you did get a good throaty sound at top end power , but has I say unless I spot weld side brackets its loose .

Greetings and a Warm Welcome to our TorqueCars Forum my Friend!

Good to have you along with us :)

You could try just going to a performance exhaust specialist for the work to be done. This way you can double check all is OK before you drive off.

thanks I have tried a few , but most are rip offs like stainless steel £360 for a micra 1 pipe and small back box. I have took my back box off more times than I care to remember trying out new things I just want a bit of noise not a lot but to drive without looking at rev counter, the mods have made it 120 bhp and enough torgue to pull a train. I just carnt hear this modern day diesel

You could try substituting your air filter for an open cone version. This will not give you any more power on your car but will give you some more noise. You may need to fashion some sort of heatshield to go around the filter to help prevent the engine heat robbing your car of power.

I guess this is an age thing, as the last thing I want is more noise :) I remember fitting playing cards to my bike so they flicked against the spokes making a great noise.

If you simply want more noise, remove the box and replace with a bigger diameter pipe

you cannot use a big pipe on micra turbo diesel 1500 turbo make to much back pressure , 50mm is cool thanks though I used them on petrol cars nothing happens only a big rackett

thanks but have you seen under the bonnet of a turbo diesel micra , not any space left to put a fag packet, I have changed the filter to a kn power filter that's great , I don't want lots of noise just just a little when I excelerate hard that all .the micra goes like well , but sounds weak with nothing . I will send a photo when I have enough post under my beltm thanks

Yeah I've got to agree with OG. I love diesels for the torque and ease of driving but they are in no way nice to listen to. Now if it were a straight-six petrol BMW or Jag V8 then aye, I'd like to hear more of it.

The last thing I think when I hear some pointless booming 4-pot is "ooh that's nice"

I must admit, I have never heard a diesel car with a good exhaust note, hummmm  I'll take a look on You Tube at the Audi diesel Le Mans cars and see what they sound like :amuse:

The days of tractor sounds are well gone. My little 1500 micra with its universal Renualt turbo diesel is so quit you would not no its a diesel that the hole point I have modfide a car faster than a golf GTI with a 0-60 of 8 seconds , and I cannot hear the hear engine , I am going to take the back box off and replace with a 50mm piece of pipe and a curve down end in crome

Good luck with that, I hope you get the sound your looking for.

thanks me 2 its costing me more trying to find it, it dosent help with the real back box hangers being is such strange place . I will have to weld new hangers on to whatever I try. A cherry bomb is cheap about £36 but with welding and bits of pipe it soon mounts up .

Can recall my father telling me long long ago.
" If it's got wheels or breasts it's going to give you trouble and cost you money":amazed:

Me to, this car was a project I now have retired from being a bricklayer , and having a brand new car every 3 years for has long has I can remember all hot or warm from a new in 1990 renualt 5 turbo, to a Subaru impreza wrx in rare racing green , black alloys lowered suspention , de cat 1 of the 2 cats full £600 stainless ect ect . When I retired I said I am going to buy the most unlikely car and mod it. I live in Mansfield and saw an ad for the last k12 nissan micra 1500 turbo diesel , brand new but registered to the garage I picked a siver 3 door (of course) for the project. I has a fleet to pick from all VISIA £ 6800 on the road no miles and taxed. first a bought a plug in power chip box and could not believe the little micra was a demon, already 86 bhp it went to 115 bhp and torque that just pulled its little heart out . I have a cool vid of the car moded and doing 100 mph round a bendy dual carriage way. but the forum wont let me load up yet till so many post . dyslexic if you haven't guest

Your not going to get much more noise from a diesel pal. I'd recommend a decat exhaust system with a straight pipe. If anything you'll get more turbo noise and a little more throaty noise from the exhaust.

cat right to manifold , untouchable by all but aliens with sonic tool kit , not nuts these japs , the cat has a connection of its own to the manifold to stop the practice of removing , anyway 2 foot 50mm straight pipe in the post only £6 post and pack. let round 6 begin . I have nothing else on the rota, thanks buddy
