Only a few of you will be old enough to have even heard of this gearbox :)

For those few wrinklies, any idea how much one weighs? With or with or bellhousing. Although senile, I can cope with both metric and imperial measure :)

Is this the 4 speed unit that was used in the Corsair?

I will put the question to Ian Gwynne of Bill Gwynne Motorsport in Turweston, Northants.

BGM is a client to my own business. They prepare rally cars to various standards and have a lot of experience with RWD Escorts, which, I imagine, may well use that 'box or a sub-derivative of it.

One question I will be asked is this - 20 splines or 23 splines? Not sure exactly what shaft this applies to, but I've heard it bandied around here and there!!

Let me know and I'll put you directly in touch with BGM if that helps.

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul

I thought that you would respond :)

I am only looking for a close approximation. I am trying to work out how much I can reduce the weight of my prioject car. I am now using a BG T5 in place of the original 4 speed 2000E type box. I need to know the weight in order to work out how much extra the T5 weighs. I believe it was 23 spline. I sold my box some time ago before I became obsessed with weight reduction :)

I'm at BGM tomorrow afternoon, I'll put the question to Ian or Pete. They are very knowledgeable gentlemen and will almost certainly be able to provide a concise answer (or two?).

They still prepare lots of Mk1 & Mk2 Escorts for various clients.

Some members of the Gwynne family drive and compete in various parts of Europe in various events.

Is your planned application FWD or RWD?

Rgds,

Paul.

PS. the website is : http://www.billgwynne.com

OK, I put this to Ian. I was slightly suprised by the response ('No Idea') but he's vowed next time a RWD chassis stripped to hang one from a dynamometer. I suggested that bathroom scales would be more appropriate.

Sorry I can't be more specific - I really thought that BGM would have this information to hand.

Rgds,

Paul.

Thanks doughnutter, but, unfortunately, no mention of the 2000e box :-(

I've got a T5 so I can weight that, just need to know about the 2000e.

As for HDi Fun...... what a disappointment, and I thought that I could rely on you provide me with the answer :) All those diesel fumes, I suppose :)

Anyone else got any ideas ? (you will need to be at least 40 to have any idea what I am talking about :) )

I wish I had the answer OG. I'm slightly surprised at BGM not having something definitive.

I have to own up here and say that I've never owned a Ford, And that I've driven only a few Fords - all of which have been pretty standard machines. Nothing exciting at all.

I'm sorry to have let you down on this occasion. Yep, it's possibly the diesel fumes interfering with my IQ. It might even just be the psychological shock of paying 110p/litre for fuel that's dulled my otherwise swift and accurate mind.

Kind regards,

Paul.

Search over!

Spoke to a Lotus owner friend over the weekend and it turned out he had a spare box lying around. Weight is 29.2Kg.

Thanks for your interest and comments. I will try to ask an easier question next time :)
