Over the years I've seen many cars which were decidedly uncool and after time they suddenly become cool and collectable.

I'll list the Ford Capri 2.8 and 3.0, Opel Manta GTE, MK1 Golf GTi, Ford Escort RS Mexico, The Lancia Thema & Delta to name just a few.

Why do some cars become so uncool and what changes over time that makes them suddenly collectable?

Lancia Thema! See I knew I was way ahead of my time. Great comfortable fast alternative to a BMW 5 series but the electrics were awful, well at least the one I owned was.

Most of the Japanese 70s and 80s models are now very collectable. Toyota Corollas and Crowns. Nissan 280ZX and early 300ZX. Mazda RX3 to think of a few off top of my head

The Renault 5 GT Turbo was never cool but is quite cool now. I even quite fancy one myself!

Not exacly the topic but -

Just a few years ago totally standard GTR used to be considered a waste of space and not worth looking at . Now mine gets more attention at shows than the modded ones and seems to be considered cool by everyone.

How times change

And it will be increasing in price faster as the unmolested ones become increasingly rare |B

Did you see an original low miles R33 VSpec was just imported by BHP Imports for £50000 otr. The first R33 to do that and that used to be the unloved model as everyone wants the R32 original or the F&F R34 versions usually. Wish I could of kept mine now but hey ho

Off course! This was my baby back in the day, Jag E-Type chromed rear end with open half shafts, Rover 3.5 V8 engine with a Borg Warner auto box, it was the frigging business
Awesome car. I didn't know you had one of these! You've been a petrol head for a very long time then.

It's a similar story with the Supra, a standard low mileage good condition one is so rare you'll pay a hefty premium to get one but I'm not sure they draw much attention yet at shows.

The GTR has always been a car appreciated by enthusiasts. It's great to see the love increasing on the older ones now.

Yes, I have always loved GTR actually and never understood people who didn't. Well, I mean everyone got their own style etc. but it was always one of the coolest cars for me. If I will keep grinding as I do now, hopefully I can grab one at (Advertising removed) some day, friend promised a special deal.
