peugeot 206 1.4
it is a bog standard pug 206 1.4, on the nearside front it wore off on the outside shoulder, at first i thought it was wheel alignment but then i noticed the offside tyre was wearing on the inside shoulder, i cant see it being wheel alignment and it baffles me to what causes it, anyone got any ideas?

thanx

It is very likely that it is wheel alignment. Many so called alignment specialists only align the front wheels, and even then only to an imaginary straight line drawn through the middle of the car.

The corret procedure is to align the rear wheels first. If this is not possible (some cars are not readily adjustable) then the front wheels will be aligned with repsect to the back wheels.

i'll get it checked then, i just thought that when it is wheel alignment it wears on both outsides or both insides if you understand what i mean, the car doesnt have adjustalbe rear wheel alignment either, i will get it checked though, thanks for reply

Do you take right hand corners a lot quicker than left hand ones or use lots of roundabouts? I've seen similar wear under these conditions also.

Tracking, tyre pressure are your main reasons. If you are really unlucky then maybe take a look at your hub, maybe one of the bearing are warn (this happened on my 323 mazda).

Tracking will usually cost you a £10er or so.

In the Uk the outside of the nearside front tyre (and the inside of the offside) can wear a bit more than the rest simply due to the fact that we go clockwise round a roundabout. But it shouldn't be excessive.

Most cars aren't adjustable at the rear - or not easily anyway. It often involves unbolting the whole lot and fitting shims or spacers.

But a good operator will align with respect to the rear, thus aligning the thrust line through the middle of the car.

Also get them to check camber and castor as well as toe-in/out.

Most FWD cars will toe out very very slightly at standstill.

I wouldn't have thought that the rears of Peugeots were adjustable anyways,

It's definately the tracking that is out mate, Peugeots are known to scrub the outside of the tyres first especially if the tracking is out. I tend to think it's because they don't have enough negative camber on the front to make it a safer drive.

Maybe then when I've changed my suspension, I will get it 4 wheel alinded.

Theres a local performance garage that has the equipment to do it so I will take it there.
