Trying to seriously modify an American Car

Hey guys. I'm new here and have a few questions.

I have imported an Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0L V8 32V currently running at 280bhp.

I was wondering if anyone knew anyone about tuning the engine and getting it between 300-400bhp.

I don't really have a budget and am finding it very difficult to find bits for it through normal online stores.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I beleieve that the Indy racing league use these engines so if you read up on this you will be sure to see how to make big power with these engines.

There is quite a bit of extra power to be squeezed out of them. Primarily use bigger injectors, uprated fuel pump, induction kit and a rechip. Skimming the head will increase compression. With a Large engine you really need to focus on improving the low down power as they do rev very highly. A mild fast road cam setup would help with this.

Have you thought of introducing a supercharger?

Funny you should say that. I've sent a couple of emails out regarding superchargers and am awaiting prices. What else would I need to buy for the car if a Supercharger was purchased?

All of the things you've mentioned certainly seemed do-able. Is there anyone you can reccommend to carry out work like that?

Thanks for your input btw...

Super charger would affect the air pressure in the engine - don't go for too much boost. The ECU would need a remap and the air flow sensor may also need upgrading. More air = more fuel needed to the ecu mod would help.

Bigger valves are another modification I forgot to mention - this does require a bit of work but if the head is coming off it is well worth spending a little time cleaning things up and improving air flow.

Thanks again.

Are there any people in the country (preferably in the Midlands) who specialise in these sort of things? I'm not an expert under the bonnet (sorry ... the hood!) and wouldn't risk anything with this car. :D

Hi Gaz, I'm down here in Kent so I don't know of anyone in your neck of the woods - I'm thinking we need to start a tuner directory of the country - watch this space.

Good idea.

I'm actually in Kent on 1st Sep! lol.

If you could find anyone up here (even if part of a directory), it'd help a lot!

Cheers :D

Add this guy to your garage list:

He solved a couple of problems I was having and is going to begin tuning next Thursday! :D

Their main mechanic, although a bit old, is "The Daddy" for American V8 tuning!
