A van? That's a surprise. Perhaps it's down to the better security we have in Cars now.

It's not a surprise. Vans hold tools and materials in large quantities. These are dead easy to sell on, unlike stolen vehicles themselves.

I often wonder why people put signs on the back to the effect 'NO TOOLS IN THIS VAN OVERNIGHT'. We know instantly that during the day if it's parked up there's likely to be £1000's worth on board. Or overnight there's likely to be a nice little pile of expensive tools inside the building outside of which it's parked.

That reminds me of a sign I saw on a van which read.

The only tool in this vehicle is the one driving it!
