Particulates don't just come from exhausts

It is interesting that lots of particulates from motor vehicles come from the brakes, and tyres.

We mostly think of particulates from exhausts and from diesels, but actually any small particles can cause problems when they are airborne.

An interesting quote from a guardian article "The researchers found some roads where the air pollution benefits from improvements in diesel exhausts were outweighed by increases in particles that come from the wear of tyres, brakes and the road. Also precious metals from car exhausts particularly the catalysts can be found in the roads. I heard one person say that tearing up tarmac and processing it will yield more Platinum, Palladium and Rhodium ore than many mines will produce per ton of rock.
