I know its not a real Porsche but a VW/Audi in disguise, but has anyone run Nitrous on one of these? I was just wondering how much boost a standard engine could take?

Cheers

As the nitrous increases - it is fuelling that becomes a problem with a tendency to run lean. I'd recommend a rolling road setup - start out at 25hp and move up to 50hp, 75hp and you might be lucky enough to go for 100 bhp - seeing how things hold up all the way along. Most Nitrous dealers have fairly specific application maps to give an idea of safe power increases available. Wizards of NoS are probably the best people to ask!

Bear in mind that if you do other mods to the engine you'll need to back off the nitrous a little unless you go for strengthening the bottom end.

I would keep to about 50 - you are asking a lot using NoS to raise power by more than this.

Cool, cheers guys. 50bhp was what I was expecting. I have been told that the rule of thumb is that a stock bottom end is safe for 50% of the engines standard bhp in NOS boost and it is always good to goa little lower for safety reasons. A standard 924 runs 127bhp.

theres no group for the 944 8v non turbo but ive been tossing the idea of a nitrous shot where can i find a product like this or what are some opinions?

Hi and welcome 85Porsche944. Try our sponsors shop, they have quite a few Nitrous kits from different makers. Stick with Wizards, NOS althought other brands are probably OK I have only got experience with these ones and the kits are pretty easy to fit.

Have a quick read of this for some poiinters http://www.torquecars.com/tuning/NOS-Nitrous.php

Do you have the standard cams in there at the moment?

I would go with a fast road cam, don't go too silly. If you get the head properly flowed and ported you will see quite a power gain.

What sort of mileage has your 944 done?

yeah its my new toy everything stock exept the radio, thats good to know but where to find such products is my biggest concern, shes sitting at about 120,000 km's

Have a chat with Piper or Kent. They might be able to offer you a regrind on your standard cams. Its also worth noting that a lot of classic beetles have Porsche engines so it would be worth speaking to a DUB specialist as well to see if they can source parts for you.

Where abouts are your from?
