I've just finished the conversion from a 1.2 to a 2.5v6 in my mk1 astra.... just need to put some NOS on it.

Has anyone done this? let me know i wanna put it on asap

Sounds great to me. Go for it! What V6 engine did you use - i'd be very interested to hear how you got it to fit and what problems you overcame along the way.

wasnt easy

To be honest, we went from a 1.2 to a 1.8 gte, then to a 2ltr, all 8v.

I was very unsatisfied with the results from the 2ltr 8v, so i was browsing ebay and bam 2.5 v6 red top for 300 quid. Came with gearbox, ecu, engine harness, down pipe and the guy threw in an induction kit for free (very nice guy)

Now fitting it was tricky, because it was so huge we couldnt go down we had to come up the engine bay. We used the f16 gearbox that comes with the 1.8 and 2ltr 8v engines, but then we had the change the flywheel as that too was massive, so we used a flywheel from a 2ltr 16v. There was some uming and ahhhing as to this little mod effecting the running (doesnt bother it a bit).

With this gear box on 2 out of the 4 mounts were sorted, the tricky one was the mounting we had to weld in and the top engine steady....

Few niggles with the wiring, nothing that a volt meter couldn't fix, and getting you hands in the now filled engine bay to plum up the water works was tricky... but it sounds like a monster and it goes like s**t off a shovel.... I still want a bit more power, as i'm not quite content with the 190bhp, so NOS is my final mod as there's no space at all in the bay to fit a turbo or supercharger.

Hope this aint bored you.

Jake - thanks for that - always interested in the tech side. Are you interested in letting us do a feature? pm me if so - I think it will be a great addition to the site!

When fingers talks about an engine swap he usually means swapping everything on the car. So he would do something Crazy sounding like get a Porsche, remove the body and add a Morris Minor body, chassis etc...

Sure

Yeah would be sweet to do a feature, I ve got shed loads of pictures, also got loads on my mates mk2 monster, with a ridiculous kit on it.

Spoke to some guy yesterday who specialises in Nitrous and warned me to stay away from american versions like NOS as apparently the parts aint so good, but he did say i should split it and have dual port injection at 50bhp a pop... so will be looking at around 290bhp.... yeah... now if only i could get the road under my tyres... perhaps some concrete in the front end... heh heh only kidding

I have been looking into N2O aswell, looks lie Nitrous Express is probably the way to go. Edelbrock kits are supposed to be pretty good too.

You might find raising the rear end and softening the front will help with traction but in a Front drive car its limit is about 200bhp without wheelspin and loss of traction.

pics

Sorry it's been so long since i posted on here, i'm getting some new photos tonight, seeing as the computer developed a lovely bug a devoured just about everything....

stay tuned.

We've missed you  . Nothing worse than a screwwy computer! We look forward to seeing the pics. (You still up for the feature?)
