What is the best way to measure a cars performance?

We tend to go on the popular quoted figures of BHP and 0-60 times. But are these enough? Do they tell the whole story?

Should we instead go on 30-70mph times and look more closely at Torque or the power to weight ratio?

Is there a simple stat that will allow you to compare the relative performance of cars easily?

Depends on your personal requirements. That's why there are so many choices and models.

No.

If these are what you are interested in.

No.

Well I suppose the pub bragging rights with regards to power is always -BHP and 0-60. Since I have been here on TC I have learned to appreciate torque and what it really means.

Torque is what we drive. Power is a function of torque and revs - the two are not interchangeable. Acceleration doesn't have to start from standstill.

Best way to measure? Qualitatively - drive it and see what it feels like.
