What is the longest period of time you've owned a particular car?

Why did you keep it so long?

Our first A3 lasted about 11 years, we only sold it when the mileage got high and things started to break on it.

Diesels last a good 50 miles longer than petrol! (only joking, i'd buy a 170,000 mile diesel car without hesitation)

The current Saab is the longest time I have ever owned a car, over 12 years now with 125k on the clock; it still continues to put a smile on my face :)

I am not sure that petrol engines are any less durable long term than diesel engines.

Regardless of fuel type, other components are still going to wear in keeping with the make and model of car.

Maybe this is why silky inline 6 cars last a long time? Next to zero vibration and thus nothing to wear out other bits of the car, notwithstanding the drivetrain itself.. Even lamp filaments are susceptible to vibration!!

I keep mine until someone destroys them for me :(

I voluntarily parted company with my Nissan Primera in 2005 which had over 180,000 miles on the clock. Faultless car. Silly me.
