Long air intake and effect on performance

If I put a much longer route from the air intake filter to the engine what would happen to the performance of the car?

Would it give me more low end torque or better peak power?
 
I don't think it would make any difference, it's only post Throttle body where the intake runner length makes a difference afaik.
 
On very high performance engines the more filtered air between filter and throttle body the better.
On road cars there will be no disernable improvement and you may actually see a decrease due to more time for under bonnet heat to warm the intake air.
