Lighter is not always better

Most people have the conception that a car needs to be as light as possible. But I am of the firm opinion that this is not always the case.

Heavier cars enjoy better traction for example, a light car will usually just wheelspin until the laws of physics are observed.

When is lighter better? Where are the compromises you have to make?
