I can't remember the last time I saw a car with lots of rust on it.

Does this mean that rust is a thing of the past with improved galvanised metals and better manufacturing?

Or does it just mean we are sticking to newer cars and ditching them before the rust ever becomes a problem?

Are there any makes of car that still attract rust? I remember that Lancias, Fiats and Alfas used to be pretty bad for rust.

I think that rust has been eliminated due mainly to the way that the bodies are fully immersed/dipped into chemicals or paint so it gets into all the nooks and crannies.

People aren't keeping cars as long as they used to. The scrappage scheme took a lot of older cars off the road.

The metals and treatments used do resist rust for much longer. I guess if cars last longer then manufacturers will try to build in obsolescence somewhere else, like the electronics.
