How long should headlight bulbs last

I can't remember the last time I had to change a headlight bulb.

A friend though has got through 4 bulbs in the space of about 8 months, the fronts keep blowing. Do you think he has a fault or is it just a problem with the superbright bulbs having a shorter lifespan?

2-3 years for me usually. I think higher power ones do tend to burn out more quickly but if they keep going after a few months there is a problem.

He's not handling the bulbs? Oil from fingers is meant to cause problems when it heats up.

I always clean bulbs with metho and handle them with tissues wile installing them.
How long they last depends on usage and no electrical gremlins showing up.

The lights in my 4x4 are still going strong after 120klm's.
