Hello to you all. I've just joined the site after scouring the Internet looking for some ideas on tuning my car and stumbled across you guys. I have owned a 2005 Peugeot 307 hdi 90 1.6s for the last 7 years and would like some info on gaining more power from it. I installed a new after market filter yesterday and did notice a very small difference in the running of the car, possibly due to the fact that the old one had been in there for the last 6 years.May I add not a 5 minute job either on my model as the filter box is located at the back of the engine block so removal of a few parts just to gain access to it was involved.Am I right in thinking that fitting a more expensive performance air filter won't gain me anything as deisels generally breath well anyway? It has a standard factory fitted turbo and intercooler so are these areas I could start looking to upgrade first and then possibly a remap?
I'm a maintenance engineer and qualified electrician so feel I have the skills required to undertake most of the work myself. My apologies for rambling on a bit but I am keen to get my project underway as soon as possible so any ideas would be much appreciated.

Greetings and welcome to our TorqueCars forum :)

You can fit a performance filter to help the engine breath a little better. Replace the exhaust system with something less restrictive and give the car a full and comprehensive service. Then get the car remapped by someone who knows what they are doing. You can have a generic map installed which will give you more power, torque and better mileage per gallon. You can pay extra and get a custom remap done which will make better use of your fitted hardware.

Thanks T9 man that's much appreciated. So fitting a performance filter is defo worth it then? When you say replace the exhaust system with something less restrictive what do you suggest? Are you talking about stainless steel exhausts. This is my first time tuning a car so any pointers or tips would be really helpful.

Seek out a local specialist who will do a performance exhaust system for a diesel, and yes this will need to be done in stainless steel especially if you are expecting to keep the car for a few years. There are some Peugeot performance specialists about like
http://www.pugperformancemotorsport.com/ and http://www.pug1off.com/ who may well have a purpose built system off the shelf that you could buy and have fitted locally.

That's great. Will have a look into that. Thanks for the links as well that's really helpful. With regards to the turbo and intercooler is this an area worth looking into upgrading as well. I have found some local remap specialists who use the Quantum remapping software. Are you familiar with this system and if so is it any good?

Hi and welcome to TC forums.
I have a few friends my way who own garages and they rate Quantum very highly. You take car in, garage plug in the computer device and download your current software. Also take note of any modifications then send all that info to Quantum. Quantum look through the information sent make the necessary adjustments and send new map back to garage who then install the new program. Take it for test drive and away you go. Takes about an hour and half to do all that. They've reported no problems with their work.
If you go down the replacement turbo route then a more specialized tuner like our own Rob Bentley at JR Tuning or Celtic Tuning maybe a better bet as you get to talk to the actual person doing the programming.

Hi and thanks Ariel Andy. That's good to hear that about Quantum. I'm in Buckinghamshire and a lot of garages round here are using it. Will check out JR Tuning and Celtic tuning see what my options are.

Hi guys. Sorry I've not posted anything on here for a few weeks but my project has been put on hold. My clutch went a couple of weeks ago and it cost me over 500 quid to get replaced so that has pretty much cleaned me out. Gutted. Nevermind these things happen. It was the original clutch and the car has done nearly 130k so can't grumble to much.

OUCH!

Yer ouch Andy. It did hurt a bit but I suppose if I had of spent the money elsewhere on my car like the remap or something and then the clutch went I would have been well gutted if you get what I mean. Lol.
