What are your thoughts on using EGR as an alternative to ALS (anti lag systems)

Do current EGR's keep the turbo spooling, keep the engine warm or just help smooth out engines when there is no throttle?

I'd be curious to know your thoughts on these, as many remove EGR completely and ALS is often viewed as a track or competition car mod only.

I've never considered EGR as an anti lag mechanism. It [EGR] is simply there to burn Hydro-Carbons present in the exhaust gases. It's not hard to keep a turbo spooled up during gear changes. Just complete your change up without fully releasing the accelerator. Same applies on the way down the 'box.
Easiest and cheapest approach is to use eyes and determine which gear you need for the next dozen seconds or so. Plan your driving.
