It is highly recommended to have a HANS device when you have a harness on track days as they can help protect your head and neck in the event of a crash. They require a helmet with mounting points for the pylons they attached to.
Some BUT NOT ALL helmets are able to be drilled to mount the pylons

I've only seen a few drivers with these over here, I'm sure they will catch on. Perhaps they should be made compulsory for certain types of cars and tracks?

Quite a few race classes now require HANS.
