Custom paint job.

Hey guys, any custom painters out there? Heres the problem.
I am a very accomplished sprayer in 2k solid, clear over, met, pearl etc etc.
I want to do a tri colour paint job on a Mk1 escort but i want to use base coat metalics within a flatted solid white panel and i want to bury any hard edges between colours in the clear, however. When i spray met base, there are rules that i stick to and not sure how to get round them for this job.
I will be using fine edge masking tape and the met colour coats will have a final drop coat pre clear. I was hoping to spray in all the colour coats and then clear the entire panel to bury it all.
1) How to protect the individual colour coats whilst i mask off for the colour changes?
2) How long can i leave the base coats before i clear? (inter coat adhesion)
3) How long dare i leave the masking on between colours so as not to peel the edges off.
Hope it made sense. Nick.

This is one for Timmy -he knows about paint spraying. I can't quite get my head round what you are trying to achieve here. Are the colours to fade into each other or is it to create a deeper paint effect finish.

No its a hard edge colour change but the final clear coat surface is glass flat, i,e no steps in the finished surface as it changes colours. ultimately, the whole panel gets flatted and mopped. Timmy will get it straight away.

Timmy is definitely the man to talk too here! The art work that he produces should be hanging in a museum ;)

Hi guys, was gonna hijack this thread for a sec.

Ive done a fair bit of spraying but nothing fancy, but was gonna have a stab at the mpv as it needs to be smartended up and extra protection.

Trying to keep this short, i want to deal with all the minor rust thats appearing to start off with. The final goal though is to wrap the vehicle for business use. So before I burn cash wrapping bad pannels i wanted to get them keen and protected from future probs.

A mazda mpv 2003 from the factory would be sprayed with water based colour paint, but a thinner based top coat, is that correct?
Is there any chance I could key the affected areas, spray a holding coat, build it up then flat it. Give it a month or so, then it could be wrapped.

Does that sound dodge??

Last question, looking for mechanics who know mazdas well. LONDON based is poss. Any contacts or leads??

Cheers fellas
