Cars and cold weather

Who's car is playing up 1st thing in the morning

About 2in of ice on mine this morning (slight exaggeration :lol: )

I have a volt gauge so before i turn it over i make sure the battery is ok -
12v ;)

Go to turn it over, just managed to turn over on the 3rd go :amazed:

Anyone else have problems, or is it just me

Mine was fine no problems at all. If your having problems now then get the battery and alternator checked out straight away, they will let you down very soon as it starts to get colder. Also check your spark plugs and cold start sensor just in case. You should treat this morning as a valuable warning! ;)

Ah! That charm comes along with V.A.G. badge! :)
Mine shows the servo error (for steering wheel and stuff) sometimes. Also just need to do "Microsoft" aproach - restart it! :lol:

Aye, except I think it's all cars these days, more sensors than the Starship Enterprise and if just one goes wrong the car throws a hissy fit.

In December 2010 she started quite happily when it was minus 18 degrees but I think that's what battered the last of a ten year old battery. Lead acid batteries do diminish in their capacity to hold charge and deliver several hundred amps at low temperatures. .

Touch wood I've been lucky with winter motoring over the years (25 of them now) and I hope that I'm not tempting fate here.

It's hard to know what to make of battery makers and brands. I had mine fitted my a mobile battery and tyre specialist. He fitted something called Bull Brand. I have never heard of it. However, I paid the man his money (about £140) and left it at that.

A quick bit of research reveals that Bull Brand batteries are made in Austria and are common OEM fitments for BMW, Merc, Saab and other well regarded car makers. Of course the OEM batteries have OEM badges on them, no mention whatsoever of Bull.

It's a bit like Jurid discs and pads which are fitted to my car. I'd never heard of Jurid. Turns out it's the OEM maker for BMW and Porsche (and many more Euro branded cars) and Jurid is owned by Honeywell.

Just goes to show that there's not much in a name. OR sometimes there's quite a lot in a name.

Let's face it, Costcutter is wholly owned by my pet hate, namely Tesco plc.
 
Hopefully we'll all have trouble free winters this year! Any things to look out for to preempt the cold weather?
