VW high UP!
Hey guys!

I'm on here to get a bit of advice and info on mods I can make to make my fun little UP even better.

Popped my new private reg on today :D

Considering as a starter; window tints, wind deflectors, chrome sill strips, body kit skirts, new alloys and lowering springs. But I'm totally new to modifying a car, so advice is very much appreciated (and required!)

Thanks!
Bex

Hi and welcome to TC forum
Yes there doesn't seem to be much does there. Awesome Gti site has a just the usual intake and that's it. Not even any exhaust systems. You can make it feel faster with a lowering spring kit or even a set of coilovers. Changing the brake pads to a sports type like EBCs Red Stuff might sharpen up the braking.

If you want the exhaust change to be more meaningful then a customer cat back exhaust with a remap should release a few more gee gees. Make the engine more responsive and feel quicker at least

Sounds like a plan, Andy :)

I've got some potential mechanics who specialise in this kind of thing, so will start getting some quotes together!

At least you said false exhaust.

It might be more fun leaving it looking completely stock and tuning it just the same.

Be careful with the insurance, all modifications need to be notified and if you are a young driver they won't like it.

It's not fair really but they have these rules in place and will use them to void the insurance when you need it the most.

Thanks, SLEEPER, obi_waynne, I'm 23 and this year was the first time it was acceptably low (in terms of insurance and not my car )

Getting some dints (from car parks :( ) sorted out first I think :)

Having it lowered and getting some window tints are my first priority I think :)

Found someone local who has a modified up and has a bit of advice. Been told that coilers would be a better option than lowering springs and that I can get Fks quite cheap?

Well done on getting there, you're part of the family now. They look really good in White.

You'll have to start up a project thread and keep us updated with your progress.

You need to remove that distracting thing hanging off the rear view mirror otherwise you may be classed as a Muppet ;):)

You know, I used to be in your situation a lot when I was younger, and no it wasn't while the old king was still on the throne.
As mentioned above, lowering spring kit and new rims can transform and personalize your ride, and make it so much more enjoyable, I would do that first, and probably have a 'watz' badge before the up badge.
Also, de badging keeps things mysterious, and driving slowly sometimes says volumes rather than driving round town on the limiter, sporting zimmer frames and false teeth from all the pensioners you have 'skittled'.
Nothing says a statement like driving a powerful car in a relaxed and restrained manner, if it looks good, keep em guessing.
I really enjoy personalising my rides in this way, and there are loads of little mods that improve the overall looks and handling on small run abouts. And of course theres always multi point fogger nitrous oxide injection!!! any advice just ask.

Hi and welcome

If you want to keep it legal (shock, horror, but some people do :) ) be careful with tints on the front windows. They come tinted as standard (as do all cars) and will be pretty close to the legal limit already.

Yeah, the cops are...real swines when it comes to tints, rear glass only doll!

They are just upholding the law. Tints reduce, and dark tints severely reduce, your vision at night as well as reducing pedestrian/driver and driver/driver eye to eye contact thereby compromising safety. IMO, only immature idiots add tints to their front windows. Here endeth the sermon and rant :)

Apologies to Bex, but it is so easy to wander off topic (and I am as guilty as anyone of this). If we want to discuss the police we need to do it elsewhere :)

Anyone fitted nitrous to one of these? 25bhp shot would work wonders, methinks :)

Hi Bex, cut car, but yes can be styled and look good. since it is white just paint that front bumper in black, that part where the plates are, if you know what i mean. :D maybe some retro VW Beetle wheels will make it look cool with white tyres.
