Black & Decker simple start are these any good?

Hi silly question i was thinking of using my mates black & decker bdv030 simple start which helps boost the cars battery from inside the car via the cigarette lighter socket but in the very small print it states not to use the boost function, if your car has an computer, so would this booster be ok starting my bmw e46?

its meant to be a battery booster, so if your battery has life in it but not enough to turn the engine over the unit is meant to sort of charge your battery in about 10 minutes so you have enough power then to turn the engine on, but i think my unit must be faulty as when i went to use it the other day, after charging it up for 13 hours the night before all the bloody unit did was bleep at me and did bugger all, so i think the black and decker simple start is a waste of time, also iv have been told the unit is no good for my car as car as in the very small print it states if your car has a computer not to use the booster.....
