Morning all.

Can anyone recommend a battery with the highest and longest cranking power? I want to change the one on the missus focus diesel that does lots of short journeys.

Cheers

Well from what I can find out from the website, cut and pasted in an easier way to read I hope ;)

OPTIMA®
REDTOP® A STARTING BATTERY WITH PERFORMANCE POWER
The looks alone generate plenty of excitement. Made for tuner, truck, SUV, and 4X4 vehicles: OPTIMA® Batteries can withstand the high under-hood temperatures in vehicles with performance engines.
The sealed cells make the battery spill-proof, even if you install it on its side! There’s no chance of potential damage from battery acid. In addition, the patented Spiralcell® Technology in OPTIMA® Batteries immobilizes the internal components of the battery, enabling OPTIMA® Batteries to withstand incredible amounts of vibration.

OPTIMA®
YellowTop® batteries are made for the extremes. Whether your vehicle is designed to crank out the decibels or take the abuse of off-road driving, you need more from your battery. OPTIMA® Batteries with patented Spiralcell® Technology deliver deep cycle characteristics coupled with an extreme resistance to vibration. This combination provides performance vehicles with the repetitive power they need in a spill-proof package.
If your vehicle has a lot of accessories like high performance stereo/AV systems, extra lights, winches or hydraulics it demands more from its battery. OPTIMA® YellowTop® batteries provide the extra performance and cycling capability that your vehicle demands.

If you're doing short runs then you might getting away with going to a 0w/30 oil for the winter. This makes a massive difference.

Does your car rely upon glow plugs to start? The HDi motors don't unless it's below about -18 degrees.

I have never understood battery's to be fair. I just know that for a diesel engine of that size, you are looking at about £40 + vat from any good car parts company. DO NOT BUY IN HALFORDS!

I always just ask the guys in AutoSave by me and they always sort me out good. Bought 2 battery's from em. (Ford and Mazda) and bother have been great.

yeah i looked in halfords for a battery for the bora for a laugh £139. motor factors was £45 got the father in law to get it ordered through his work for trade price

Take your word for it TN, I am used to getting a good hiding from a Saab Main Dealer for my batteries :embarrest:

I love halfords. You walk in there and ask some spotty kid how the extended warrenty on there profetinal tools work and he says ''ill go check'' returns about 20 min later and explains in the best words possible, he doesn't know.

Last battery I bought from Halfords I took back. I needed a battery on a Sunday & Halfords seemed the only option so I stumped up £80 for a battery & fitted it, monday night it was flat, I tried recharging it but it wouldn't hold its charge so I took it back & had to argue with a twerp for 45 minutes until he gave me my money back. Went to a proper battery specialist & bought a Lucas battery from B.J Bannings for £20 less. I wont go back to Halfords again!

Saab car batteries have a bleeding time clock built into them! This has been vehemently denied by their HQ after I interrogated them - but two batteries have lasted 4 years each almost to the day before they died! Queue the Twilight Zone theme tune

You dont mean actual batteries do you?

Its kind of like the old rover 1.5 engine. The heads were guaranteed to go after 60k miles

Wait for the uproar to what I just said! Loz I think will be first to disagree. I think.
